hey guys, I have 2 zebra finches, male and female, and hopefully very soon, a bigger cage with 4 new buddies, which of course they will meet after quarantine. I am eyeing up these 3 societies, and a white Java sold by the same seller. Just wondering if anyone had any of these little guys!

Hi everyone. I have 2 society finch (which are currently sitting on 6 eggs). I can't wait to see what color they will be. They should hatch any day now. I also have a pair of 6 zebras, 8 parakeets and 2 button quail. I love all the song and chatter they all make plus they are so fun to watch!

Update on my baby chick...seems to be doing fine with mom and dad. There are still 5 unhatched eggs. It's been 2 days. Is that normal?

What do the other eggs look like? Eggs that have died start to go grey and eggs that aren't fertile are sort of pink. Fertile eggs and those that are still alive and set to hatch soon are bright white. The last time mine bred they only hatched one baby and it was the fattest little thing as it had at least 4 adults feeding it. I can't remember how many days it was between hatchlings previous to that.

Thanks for replying. The eggs are still bright white. Parents are so good, they won't budge to let me see in there and I don't want to mess with them to much. I can't believe how much that baby has grown! Like doubled in size. Should I give them anything special while they are feeding a chic?

You could give them some soaked seed. Just soak your normal seed for 3-6 hours, drain in a sieve and rinse well, then pop some in a dish and they should love it. If it's hot and humid only leave it in for a few hours or it can go mouldy but I've forgotten and left it in for a whole day in milder weather and it's been fine. Mine like the egg food you can buy but I put it in a dish dry rather than adding any water. Some greens such as dandelion leaves or swiss chard always go down a treat, and millet is always appreciated (and is an easy first food for fledglings). They are adorably tiny and grow incredibly fast! Enjoy them (hopefully more will hatch soon).

Thanks so much! The finch was born on the 16th and there are still 5 eggs that haven't hatched. When or should I remove them? It has got a bit chillier here (not chilly....like chilly, lol!) would that make a difference? They are still being obiedent parents, so that's good!
It's funny I picked those 2 society's randomly out of a cage of about 15 and they laid eggs. I had my pair of zebras for probably 3 weeks to a month longer and they just are busy making nests and remaking nests..but no eggs. Maybe they were younger? Do you think it would hurt the pair to add them to 4 other zebras I have and see what happens? The 4 are quite young to. Thank you!
