Do you have to go along with the story mode, or is an open world, like you can just wander around?

One thing all of you LoZ fans should know about my stories, especially Breath of the wild, I dont like how the champions are dead... or some of the other characters from other games... This comes to the conclusion, I bring them back.
In my Fan world, they defeated the calamity the first time around!
With no casualties.

When you fall over the edge of an island? It varies, I think, but I'm not sure what determines who catches you. I think that it might be that there's one knight around Skyloft, another pretty much everywhere else in the Sky, and one who catches you at night.
I could very well be wrong, though, so don't quote me on that.

I have seen youtube gameplay videos where one player got caught by the blue, and another by the green, but none by the red... My sis drew all the rescue knights!
