I would personally recommend it.Since we’re on the subject of Sonic, I have a question.
Without spoiling anything, what can you guys tell me about the Sonic games?
I’m ashamed to admit it, but I’ve never played a Sonic game in my life. I’ve played Zelda, Mario, Dragonquest, Metroid, and more, but never Sonic.
Should I try it out? Do you think I’ll enjoy it?
Would you all recommend it?
Sonic's transition to the 3D age has been a bit of a roller coaster, so there are some games that are just a sore to play, but others that are really amazing.
When I first started playing Sonic, my brother bought Sonic Generations for our PS3, which was a great introduction to the franchise, since it flashes through characters and levels from many of the more historical Sonic games, and it has a relatively simple plot. Sonic Generations is sort of getting a little hard to come by these days, but they are releasing a remaster of it this October. Again, it's a great intro game for the franchise.
Most Sonic games do require a lot of quick thinking, as you'd expect, and to achieve the peak satisfaction of playing a level usually requires some crazy reflexes. If speed runs aren't your thing, Sonic might not be the franchise for you.
The character dynamics and interactions are very lively and diverse. From your light-hearted, loyal characters like Tails or Amy Rose, to the more mysterious or disagreeable ones like Shadow the Hedgehog or Knuckles the Echidna. There's a very broad spectrum and you're more than likely to find at least one character that you will really love.
Here's a list of some good games to try out:
Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic The Hedgehog 2- the classics are still great
Sonic Rush
Sonic And The Black Knight
Sonic And The Secret Rings- potentially a little glitchy
Sonic Generations- you'll probably have to get the Sonic X Shadow Generations remaster if you are on a newer console
Sonic Forces
Sonic Colors
Sonic Frontiers
Some games like Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes have amazing plots and decent gameplay, but some rather questionable cutscene animation. Aside from that, they are great games, although I think I heard from someone that Heroes might be a little glitchy. Adventure 2 has one of the most historical plots in the franchise, namely with the introduction of Sonic's long-time rival, Shadow, and the plot is very well done.
Sonic Unleashed has some of the greatest high-speed levels in the franchise, but it's the other half of the game that usually turns people off, since due to events in the plot, Sonic becomes a "Werehog" at night and the levels are mostly melee fighting, making them painfully long and slow.
Avoid Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 (usually just known as Sonic '06) and Shadow The Hedgehog, Shadow's spin-off game. They're kinda horrible
