Any Gamers Here?

I'm not planning on getting a switch 2 anytime soon. I actually love my switch, but I can't really justify the cost of a new game system right now and if we were going to get one, I would honestly want to get my partner an Xbox X or S before a new switch since I'm the only one who uses the switch here. Everyone uses the Xbox though.

I’m still enjoying MH Wilds. Capcom has dropped some updates that has improved the selection of end-game content. I’ve also found the best gfx settings for my display that gives me the best framerate at the highest settings possible and I am now playing to enjoy the visuals.

Graphics set to “balanced.” 120hz mode enabled. Framerate unlocked. HDR automatic. On the console system settings, VRR forced. The result is beautiful gfx that often runs at 60fps. Makes for visually stunning combat.

I’ve am considering that instead of getting a Switch 2 at this time, I’ll get a quality controller for my phone for PS remote play. My wife wants me to have some sort of handheld so I can lay in bed and play (she likes to lay next to me and go to sleep while I play). I loaded up both MH World and Rise. I think I want to play World for a while in handheld format until significant new content comes to Wilds.

The gfx for World on the PS5 Pro are nothing to discount.

I also have Rise both on the Switch and PS. The PS5 version runs at twice the frame rate with better gfx over
the Switch version. However, I don’t want to start Rise from scratch as I was deep into the game on the Switch version with end-game builds.

Yes, if you aren’t familiar with MH Rise, that’s a giant dog I’m riding.

I completed p5r a few days ago and am doing new game plus until the new hunter cotw map drops later this month, I just got back from a palace and as usual I talk to sojiro and he asks about the exam which I got top of my class in. He proceeds to gift me this as a reward....

Why do I get the impression he got that expecting I'd get a bad grade and only gifted it to me because he was unprepared for me to get a remotely good grade?

Not me - but my super geek - oops correct term is son - is quite into gaming. We put him on a computor in primary school to assist with co-ordination problems and found out he was a natural - now he has 2 degrees in intranet and cyber security. He upgrades my computor when it needs it - building and such. Plays online games with people all over so you never know one of those online Gamers you play against might be my boy.

This time around I'm choosing to be a smart donkey to Igor and still be mean to maruki whenever it won't slow down my social link progression 'cause I still dislike him for absolutely no good reason

I switched to merciless midway through my last play through so the first 2-3 bosses were fought on hard. Kamoshida I was better prepared for so his fight wasn't really any worse. Easier with better equipment and supplies but if I was better prepared the first time around I think the difficulty would have been about the same

Madarame on the other hand was more difficult than I remembered. I don't remember his stage 1 giving me so much trouble, I had to revive people many times as he hit their weaknesses. Thankfully I didn't die as joker at this point has a generous pool of HP thanks to me hitting the gym last go around and I had the bright idea to equipt the ring of vanity on him so madarame couldn't exploit his weaknesses

Also of note that I feel even less need to use yusuke as of course I brought back my best persona that I had when I was at this stage last time, jack frost. I can freeze better for cheaper than yusuke and I'd rather have Morgana's wind attacks and heals than someone who does worse ice attacks (why yes, I did name my mc Frost Ranger). Barely used yusuke last time and plan on using him even less this time

Oblivion remastered on PC is garbage with AMD hardware. Constant CTD becsaue of how badly the retextured render code is written. And it's not my setup, everything else runs fine. It's just Oblivion. I'm not bothering with it anymore until they fix the buggy crashes.

There’s a couple of trends I’ve noticed:

1. The failure of third party developers to optimize games to be efficient with the given hardware across various platforms. For example, an Xbox and PS5 are each going to have quirks that if the developers took their time to work around, the gfx of each could be pushed to the max without sacrificing performance. Platform optimization doesn’t happen near as much as it used to. Nintendo is an example of a company that still pushes optimization (because they must due to their hardware being weak) and they can craft beautiful games on a more limited system.

2. Lately, there’s been an odd trend where mass released games are running better on consoles than PC. Monster Hunter Wilds is a good example. The PS5 Pro is running it better than most PCs. And it isn’t because the PS5 Pro is superior under the hood. Its simply because for whatever reason, the game is better optimized for consoles than PCs. Ark Ascended is another example. I get higher framerates on my PS5 Pro than a lot of PC gamers get for similar gfx settings and it eats the PC supremicists up. Again, for whatever reason, its simply more optimized for consoles.

I love my PS5 Pro, but I wish more developers would take a little extra time to optimize their games for it to take advantage of its extra power.

In other news, I decided to skip the Switch 2 for now and get a PS Portal instead. I’m happy with my choice.

It streams my PS5 to the Portal wherever I have wifi. So far I’ve only tried it on my home network, but so far it plays smooth without lag or skipping. I lose my TV’s 120hz VRR and 4k, but the games are still sharp and smooth.

I have played PS Remote Play on my phone and tablet and the Portal is superior.
