Any Generation X ers here?

I'm genx. I remember the long curly phone cord stretched from the kitchen to another room so you could have privacy on the phone. I remember when CD's came out. I remember hair metal. I remember news at 6pm or in the newspaper. I remember the Dewey Decimal System.

I'm also in tech and have been online since dial up BBS' were a thing. I am not particularly fond of how rapidly garbage and misinformation can spread today, nor the majority of humanity's apparent total incompetence in actually fact checking to figure out if it's true or not. The internet has definitely united the world, but sadly, it's at the lowest common denominator. I weep for our future.
I used dial up, but I had to look up “BBS” (which made for an interesting read). I agree - It’s amazing how quickly information spreads these days, this should be a good thing, until it isn’t. Especially when said information is false, or used to control the actions of others.

56k nation! Sadly, I have a pristine 1200 baud ISA modem new in box somewhere in my junk pile. :(

Proud Gen-X'er here! Saturday morning cartoons were the best!! But kids these days have Hulu and Netflix and Disney+ and can watch cartoons all day making them just another show. I remember getting up early and racing to put on the ONE TV we had because realistically Saturday morning was the only time I was going to get to watch what I wanted anyway.

I was in college when the WWW came out and I remember saying no one would ever use that for anything other than porn because it's too slow to be useful. LOL!!! Guess I was not really in touch with the pulse of the tech world -- despite CS being one of my majors. We didn't even have a computer in my house so my first real experience (outside of playing Oregon Trails on an apple IIe in school) was in college and I loved the potential. But back then it was gopher, MUDs/MUSHs and even just email. Usernames were 8 characters and no one used their real name.

I think the biggest difference for me is that when I was a kid, I got on my bike, yelled "I'm leaving" and was gone all day wherever I wanted to be. No phone, no playdates, just go. Now as a mom, I cannot imagine letting a young child just take off without knowing where they are going, who they will be with and one of them having a phone to check in.

I also miss 80s hair, fashion and music!! 90s and 00s just don't have it...

I loved Oregon trails. I think it’s interesting all the school computers, at least at my school, were from Apple - now I only see Microsoft and Google products. I wonder why the change occurred.
My mom used to basically send us outside, lol. We simply had to be back before it got dark. Things are definitely different now.
I’m not a big fan of 80s fashion, but I prefer the music that came out back then.
