Your old box is an excellent nest box, especially since they used it!

You can use almost anything. I have never bought one. I have five made of recycled wooden boxes and have used 3 others that are actually kitty litter boxes or plastic bins. People use 5 gallon buckets, cardboard boxes, milk crate type containers -- whatever they have. Some people have open top nest boxes -- just trays, sort of, with a few inches of side to hold the hay in (or whatever you use for nesting material.)

If you build one, make it about 14" on all sides. That way if two decide to nest together (and they probably will,) they won't be too terribly crowded.
