Any guess’s on what happened?

Muscovy eggs are so hard shelled I just about need a hammer to open them.

Those are the ducks with the speckled faces correct?? They are so unique looking if so.
From the time my ducks started laying they have not stopped. They are laying every day is that normal for ducks. They started a couple months ago. They are Peking ducks.

Sometimes an egg can get accidentally broken. The shell may have had a soft spot in it or got knocked around.

What breed? Broodiness can be contagious. Do you have a drake? Do you want ducklings?

Yes we have 1 drake. We had three but they were hanging up on this one gal and it was tough to see. So I have 4 females and 1 male. Three females lay daily the one female only lays one egg every 5 or 6 days.
We do want ducklings but that would be an entire new venture. Not sure I’m ready for that.

You have Pekins that want to brood? Sorry it’s just not that common for Pekins to become broody. If your not ready for ducklings take all the eggs up. They have to actually sit on the eggs 24/7 for at least 5-7 days before you see life. They may get upset with you but your the boss here and they will get over it. And once ducks start laying they usually lay for many months on end so make sure to feed a good nutritious feed and offer oyster shell on the side. They need this to keep their egg shells strong.

Ok, I believe it is just the one that is becoming broody but the others are following her lead. For example when I let them out to free range everyone will be so excited to leave except her. She will stay back because if her eggs. I will take them but you can tell she doesn’t want me to. I have 80+ hens I have for selling eggs. We just got 70 pullets. Two already started laying do they are older. I feed them later crumble chicken feed and that is what I have been feeding the ducks as well.
If I ever were to let the broody hen hatch out some ducklings. She has to sit for five days straight for 24 hours...then what happens! Do you think there is a good chance the eggs are fertile since she is broody? Or that does not make a difference?

As far as fertile to one going broody it doesn’t matter. They’ll sit on fertile an non. You have to give it at least 5-7 days of her sitting round the clock other than eating and bathing before you see the duckling begin to form in the egg. She’ll sit for a total of 28 days to complete the broody cycle. If you have a drake you have a good chance at fertile eggs .

Ok, I’m going to keep my eye out on her. If she sits I will allow nature to take its course. I was just at tractor supply and they had ducks. Is it to late in the season for her to hatch out ducklings? Like us she getting a late start if she is going broody?

Oh Lordy I’m in the boonies let’s hope not.

If you are in the boonies you for sure have them. Wood rats, not the urban Norwegian ones. Smaller brown and live outside. Especially in wooded areas.
