Any guess on this pullet?

We picked up three birds recently that we were told were Marans. One cuckoo and two black copper. I don’t doubt that the cuckoo is a cuckoo, but I can’t decide on the other two. Are they BCM, Black marans, or something completely different? A friend thought maybe they had ayam cemani in them since their faces are so dark, but their skin isn’t black. I think they look like crows
I agree with KikiLeigh, probably black sex links. But they could also be Asian blacks, a new mixed strain the hatcheries and feed stores are selling. They are usually mostly black with some gold or silver leakage. Said to be very good layers.

I was just getting ready to ask if that was a possibility. I actually figured out that they came from Hoover’s hatchery and I was going through what they sell. I had black sexlinks that came from Hoover and these birds are definitely not that, but Asian black seems like a likely candidate.

I can't quite figure it out, are Asian Blacks technically another version of Black Sex Links? The hatcheries aren't super clear.

Could be, but here in the Midwest, black sexlinks are synonymous with RIRxBR and I knew these didn’t resemble that cross.

No, I don't think Asian blacks are sex linked, since the males and females are similar in color and there is no barring involved. That's my understanding, anyway. I think they are just a mixed strain developed for meat and eggs, like Dixie Rainbows, but mostly black in color.

Hatchery birds have a tendency to not be very good examples of the breed. I’m fairly certain these birds came from Hoover.
