Any guesses on breed(s) of my colt?

He is very flighty but then calms down almost instantly on most things. Today we taped him again to see how his weight gain is going and he was jumpy at the sound of the tape but then we started flapping it around him, over his butt, over his head, on his back. Took about 5 minutes and he was fine.

He has a heart of gold but a unsurance about himself that we are working on over coming.

Someone told me not to hope for the "fanicer" breeds and that he is most definitely a QH- Paint-TWH or a combo of the 3 but there has always been something that told me he wasn't any of those. I've owed an Appendix, a TB, a APHA, and trained on an Arab so.....

Everyone has definitely made up my mind! Ya'll are the best!

I know nothing from Saddlebreds and TWHs, but I can say with absolute certainty that that is NO QH. I've had all kinds of QHs for many, many years and the hindquarters are just not QH. Neither is the headset.

Yup, that is what I love about the ASBs I've dealt with, they have a real solid BRAIN in between the quivery ears

As he gets older he will most likely get less flighty about new things and settle down to where he sticks his head up into the ozone and snorts at things, but does not actually *mean* anything by it. They're good horses

Never met a mean ASB, and I had a favorite, named Moose LOL! She was a beautiful chestnut broodmare, all of her foals were crossed with an Arabian stallion. Boy she could trot!

Not sure about that part as my mare at 6 was the easiest horse to train per her trainer. She does love her treats and loves to be groomed and praised. And she is very willing to please and loves to work even if it is just ground driving. She gets mad when I ride my old boy and not her.

WOW you guys seem to really know your ASBs!!

So I HAVE to ask! This big guy has had me stumped for over a year now but I always come back to Saddlebred/QH cross. This is Dakota, my other rescue. He is 4 almost 5 and 16 hds!

These are from last summer....you can see he is thinner than now because of his "winter weight"

QH/Saddlebred seems about right for Dakota. He's definitely got the QH looks, conformation wise, but your action shots show a headset much higher than that of a traditional QH. His neck seems to be a little higher set and longer than most QHs too. Sounds like a good guess to me...

I would guess grade saddlebred.

He might just need a good Panacur power pack, a teeth check and some groceries...The first photo when he's camped out behind looks a little like a SB pose but with him being in rescue condition and young, it's hard to tell.

You can string test him to guess how big he'll get.

And save your money...I think they MIGHT have equine DNA tests for breeds now, just like they do dogs? So if you really wanted to you know could send in some hairs and get it done. The dogs' test costs about $70 but I'm not sure what they charge for horses, if they have such a thing, yet.

Aren't Saddlebreds coat are much more "finer" in texture that it seems to be very baby soft fur. That was the differences I noticed in ASB. mind you, not ALL of them have baby fine hair.
