I am able to get Vitamin K on Amazon. It's very hard to find in stores because apparently, it's been touted as a way to help COVID. I can get a 1 oz bottle that's 150mcg. Does ANYONE have ANY IDEA how much I would give my chicken?

I can also get Vitamin K2 + D3. K2 apparently helps in the absorption of the D3 which would be calcium. My chickens are on layer feed and have access to oyster shells. So this seems overkill and maybe not good.

"Avian medicine: Princilpes and Application" suggests dosing at, "0.2-2.5mg/kg" It does recommend giving IM, but it could probably"be given PO at the same dose.

This site does state there is some "leniency" as far as the dose, since vitamin K is quite safe.

"Toxic effects of the vitamin K family are manifested mainly as hematologic and circulatory derangements. Not only is species variation encountered, but profound differences are observed in the ability of the various vitamin K compounds to evoke a toxic response (Barash, 1978). The natural forms of vitamin K, phylloquinone and menaquinone, are nontoxic at very high dosage levels. The synthetic menadione compounds, however, have shown toxic effects when fed to humans, rabbits, dogs and mice in excessive amounts. The toxic dietary level of menadione is at least 1,000 times the dietary requirement (NRC, 1987). Menadione compounds can safely be used at low levels to prevent the development of a deficiency but should not be used as a pharmacologic treatment for a hemorrhagic condition. In studies with chicks, the major effect of toxic levels of menadione was hemolytic anemia, with a high mortality rate (NRC, 1987)."

@Isaac 0 and @dawg53 - Thank you so much! I honestly have no idea what I am doing and really hope you can help. I'm an English Major and was horrible in math and sciences so the dosage thing is way out of my league. I have K1 drops at 125mcg and K2 liquid Gels at 100mcg. In looking at the link @dawg53 sent and at @Isaac 0 info above, my best guess is that for the K1 I would do 1 dropperfull 2x day or for the K2, two liquid gels 2x day. Does this sound about right? I'm also thinking that - as noted above - that if I'm slightly off one way or the other, I can't hurt anything. Any help you can provide is so much appreciated. Thank you!

Why are you wanting to give this to your bird?
What's going on?
@Kiki I'm quite certain (more than 50%?) that on Wednesday my chicken ate a tiny mouse that had eaten some mouse poison as the mouse was dead when she was running with it. It could be that she found it and killed it but the mouse didn't have any wounds. The poison does NOT contain Bromethlin - but something else I'd not heard of before. Reading on different forums, I learned that VK can help counter effects of internal bleeding. I gave her Rooster Booster which has a small amount of VK in it along with other vitamins. One vet tech I talked to said to just leave her that if she did eat it, the toxicity would be lessened from the mouse. Another said to try VK. The other thing is that she - and 7 other hens - both lay darn near the same color egg so I can't pull eggs - unless I pull them all. Ugh. So frustrating -- Why do I love my hens so? She looks totally normal - Would it hurt to give the VK - and at what doesage per my q above - if the mouse wasn't poisoned?

So are you suggesting to just watch her? I can continue to give the Rooster Booster with no other supplements.
Yes, I would not be offering her all kinds of extras just in case, especially if she isn't acting off.

I see no problem with offering Rooster Booster once a week, it's not meant for daily use though.

Most of the literature I found regarding administering vitamin K for bloss loss, only mentioned using K1, not K2, so I would personally just skip the K2, and use only the K1.

Do you have the bird's weight, and the mcg per Ml?
