just as my headline says, I peeled back the shell and got out the chick, and noticed that all under the wing and onto the side of the turkey chick was eaten by the wasps and the flies had laid their eggs everywhere, not to mention that they ate the top tip of the beak as well. I rinsed off the chick, then blow dried it, and picked off the fly eggs, I then applied dermagel, but does anyone know what kind of antibiotic I can give this little wee one ?? I'm really worried that infection will set it, and I really don't want to loose it, it deserves a chance after what it's been through.. Any advise would be great..

Oh my! Were they eating it as it was hatching? Poor thing. Clean it up and put neosporin or vetarycin or something like that. I'd add some sav a chik or pedialyte to his water too. Sorry I can't be more help, good luck!

yes, they were eating it as it was hatching, part of the wing and the beak were out of it's shell. It survived through the night, so that's a start. I will try what you suggest, thanks a bunch !!

Poor baby!

You can use regular neosporin. Definitely give the chick some vitamins/electrolytes. If you don't have any, sugar water will help in a pinch.

Good luck with your baby! I saw the thread earlier, wish I could help, but I'm learning too. Will keep my fingers crossed though.

This is sad for you, I know. Sometimes not everything is meant to be saved. It is not necessarily because of what you did do, or did not do. It is the way of life. We will never know if that particular chick had some other defect that attracted the wasps. Now we must move on and help those that can still be helped.
