Any Home Bakers Here?

I hate myself for being so incredibly stupid. Of course, isn’t that one of the reasons we are here? To help each other navigate through our confusion?
There are two mixers I can afford. A 5 qt Artisan refurbished, or a 4.5 classic new. $30 difference. Any preference?

I need to know, HONESTLY if having a KitchenAid is a life changer.
I like it for my cookie dough. I don’t have the strength to mix by hand.

I myself would not buy refurbished.

It DOES do a lot of neat things. Kneading Dough...PLUS. I have had ONE ever since I was married. YES, A LONG TIME AGO...never a problem...had a problem last year. My husband is a very talented person and he can fix anything that is fixable. He called Kitchen Aid....no we do not sell parts. He then took the Kitchen Aid Mixer apart and located the problem. A tiny gear...was worn. He found the part on the Internet. Paid $6.00 for the gear....and he put the mixer back together....and it is working...just like new. I would NOT purchase any other make. Aria
I remember that!

Good job on fixing the mixer

I love my Kitchenaide mixer! I had the Classic and wore it out. Replaced it with a 5 quart Artesian. It was starting to wear out also, so I gave it to my sister and got the big one. I use mine for grinding meats, rolling pasta and making ice cream. Yeah, I have attachments.
Oh, and the one I gave to my sister is still working - 6 years later.

When I first got my Kitchen Aid, I didn't use it a lot. That was partly because I just didn't bake all that much at that time (worked full time & had 2 kids to raise) and partly because I had to keep it tucked into a bottom cupboard when not in use. Hauling that thing up and out of a bottom cupboard was not fun, they're heavy mixers.

In the past 5 years of so, I've used it a ton! Love my KA mixer and would hate to do without it. For me, it just makes all the baking I do so much easier. I do have a hand mixer but don't like it, so the KA is my go-to mixer for everything.

Of the 2 you're looking at, I think the right one is whichever you prefer. Some people will only go with new and others will want the larger 5 qt style. Whichever you get, I think you'll be happy with having one BC!
