Any Home Bakers Here?

Thanks for info…I bought some cinnamon smelling pinecones. Put the skinny tree in a wooden box, stuffed box with newspaper, covered that with old green kitchen towels and topped with the pine cones….smells wonderful and fits the rustic look I wanted. Instead of the cinnamon ornaments thinking about making felt chickens or chicken stockings to hang on the tree. And still have my first 3 small eggs (blown out and washed in 2013) and thinking about clear decoupage and ornament hanger and hanging those on the tree?

Love the cinnamon pine cones! I think the decoupage for the blown eggs would be beautiful. If you do it, will you post a picture?

Well my baking friends, I got brer rabbit molasses. Going to make ginger bread cookies with my son and the daycare kids tomorrow

With all the talk of gingerbread, I thought I would share this recipe from my mom's side of the family. I use this on bread pudding all the time.

Rum Butter Sauce

for gingerbread, pumpkin bread and spice cake

1 c sugar
1 tbsp cornstarch
3/4 c half and half
1/2 c butter
2 tbsp rum OR
1 tsp rum extract
1 dash nutmeg

Mix sugar and cornstarch. Blend in Half and Half.
Add butter.
Microwave on high 3 minutes. Stir.
Microwave on High 2 to 4 1/2 minutes until it boils. Cook for 2 minutes more.
Stir in rum and nutmeg until smooth.

Actually I ordered the blackstrap molasses for my home made flock block...

But for baking - the groceries will have 2 types…the lighter type - Grandma's original - is for sweetening tea, coffee, etc. I bought it by mistake. The dark or robust is best for baking. The blackstrap is better for baking beans, making chicken flock blocks, or gingerbread houses.

I was just getting ready to bake the gingerbread cookies and found out all I have on hand is the blackstrap molasses. Guess the bottle of dark was used up the last time DH made jerk rabbit. Do you think the cookies will be ok with the blackstrap in them?

Sure don't want to waste ingredients and time if that would ruin the cookies. Opinions????

I googled it and there are gingerbread cookie recipes with the blackstrap. I don't know the difference, this is my first year making gingerbread cookies. I'm a big fan of googling when in dought! I busted out my Christmas cookie cutters and will be making the cookies this afternoon with my son and the daycare kids.

I would use the blackstrap..it's not as sweet as the other types. Why not mix all except raw eggs and taste and add some sugar or karo syrup if not sweet enough and then add the eggs?

Here are my cookies and my sons. They taste pretty good. I won't lie, I just bought the frosting. We had to make and bake the cookies during nap time. My son and the daycare kids had a blast and yay, sending a bunch home with the kids! This made a ton!
*please ignore the messy counter tops!
