Any Home Bakers Here?

Happy New Year everybody! We had my daughters Alice in Wonderland birthday a few days ago & I wanted to send thanks to 3goodeggs, NorthFLChick & OrganicFarmWife for your help & good advice. The spirit of Julia Child was not exactly looking down upon me as I made those darn cookies at 5:00am on zero sleep... They were an odd shade of grey & not as attractive as I had hoped, but they tasted delicious & the Royal Icing was sweet, easy & the perfect texture for writing on. Luckily our parties consist of just me, DH & the kids, so never any pressure to impress guests (thank goodness!) I have a neighbor whos crazy about frosted sugar cookies, so I'll try these again on Valentines Day when I've hopefully had more sleep.

It looks perfect. I am sure your girl was impressed.

Yes, she loved it, so mission accomplished!

Now that I have time to breathe, I'm thinking about New Years resolutions... This year I resolve to use my flour sifter for more than just dusting the birds in DE.

Sounds like a good use of a sifter to me! Seriously, I never would have thought of that.

Your cookies look great. I'm glad your DD had fun!

Back to the dreaded ham. Do you think it's getting to late to keep using our baked ham we did for Xmas day? Thinking if still okay I better get it chopped up and in the freezer!

I would put it in the freezer tomorrow for future meals. As long as it's been refrigerated, it should be ok. (At least, that's what we've done and it's been fine.)

Good morning bakers!

I have a new resolution for 2016. I've long been a fan of the Dough Makers baking sheet I've owned for years (used to have 2 but lost 1 in a move

) but I just got one of their loaf pans through Amazon and love it! My resolution is to add their cake pans, another baking sheet and at least 1 more loaf pan. This will take a while, they aren't cheap but they are worth every penny! They are a good weight, stuff doesn't stick because of their pebbly surface and they clean up great.

Here's their website if you want to look:

(Shop around online for lower prices, I don't think these are available at stores)

I've had it with cheap bake ware. It just makes sense in the long run to spend a bit more to get something that is going to last a long time.

I have the 9x13, cookie sheet and the jelly roll pan.

Love them!
