Any Home Bakers Here?

I culture new yogurt every two weeks. I pour a bit of yogurt from the old batch into a glass and use it in the new batch.

You need to make sure that you reserve enough to make the new batch. I make a quart jar because we do not use it as much.

Instead draining, I use beef gelatin. A teaspoon and a half per 4 cups. That thickens the yogurt and adds some nutrition for the gelatin. The gelatin is from
Thank you! I'll keep draining mine; like I said, I have uses for the whey. I make "show off" yogurt. I'd take a pint jar to work and stand the spoon straight up in it. I'd show coworkers and say, "Can you yogurt do that?" Then I'd turn the jar upside down and say, "Well, how about this!?" Good for a laugh, at least.

I also want to try making yogurt cheese sometime too.

Yes, the yogurt gets quite stiff from the gelatin. I can make it less or more thick by adjusting the amount of gelatin.

When I retire I might have more time to make things with the weigh. I have made cultured butter and sour cream though. They are so good!

Off-topic, but I need some prayers my way.

My brother has 5mm kidney stones.

Yes, you read that right. 5mm.

He may require surgery to have them removed.

If he does need surgery, I will have to put off baking in order to help him. He may not be mobile for a while.

Could you guys please send prayers my way for me and my brother?

I hope the stones pass without surgery! Is sonic treatment an option?

For the past year I've been learning how to bake yeast breads here at home. It's been challenging and rewarding (when it all comes together right, lol).

Today for the 1st time I made up a Boule recipe and ran into a snag. Is there anyone here that's familiar with yeast breads? Since I'm here several times a day reading about chickens, it would be great to chat with others that also bake.

I love to cook/bake. I don't do much yeast, baking-it goes bad fast. It's just my husband & myself & most recipes serve a lot of people. When I go to rhe market/bakery I look at everything baked. It all looks so good!! But if I can make it I don't buy it. About the only thing I buy is Tiramisu.
