I live next-door to Duckling’s grandmother and aunts. They are my dh’s cousins. We’ve dealt with them stealing forever. But I’d hoped it stopped. Nope! I was asked for my 55 gal tank, stand, hoods, lights, filters...
No way to know about it if they weren’t in there.

100 percent positive that the Sourdough starter was bad. Not only was it pink, it was also orange, yellow and cream colored, with a fuzzy top.
and the stink was incredibly horrid. nasty!
I have the bowl and lid sitting in bleach water right now.

You keep it in the fridge in one of these?

@ronott1 If you are willing to, I would appreciate it. I can't find the one I froze, just for this contingency, grrr. Time to clean out the freezer.

I normally do keep my starter in one of those jars, but I was trying to get it going for baking and it was on the counter in a large measuring bowl with the lid on loosely. I wonder if it got cross-contaminated with something, as bad as it got and as fast as it went to the "pink" side. I didn't even toss it down the sink because I didn't want any chance of the smell sticking around.

Cross contamination is very possible.

So Sorry the starter needed a funeral I ask mine for forgiveness but it readily comes back from the edge bubbling to life
