Any Home Bakers Here?

I ended up working in the garden too late to make anything. the mix is still sitting on the counter. Tonight is the night. DH wants Schaum Tortes so I will make them also.

Is it a sin to buy a carton of egg whites for the Schaum Tortes - when I have over 2 dozen eggs to use up? lol, I'm just too lazy to separate that many eggs.

An “experienced” yogurt maker uses a packet to start every batch, twice a week.
Please explain why you would pay $2/batch for powder you are complaining about.
:caf Tomorrow I will be trying to make yogurt with a starter that only 55% of people have had success with. Unlike them, I will not be relying on powder more than once. If I were relying on powder on a regular basis, I’d not order from a distributor that has shipped me more than one bad batch. :he

@BullChick Is this the first time you are making yogurt?

I was going to try using yogurt I bought from the store as a starter. I like the taste of it -tangy but not too much. I will be buying whole milk from the store - it is from a local dairy though, so it is really fresh. Does yogurt made from store yogurt have the same taste as the stuff in the carton?

I keep the original box of packets in the freezer. Someone in my house keeps tossing the yogurt when it gets low.....I had a talk with them.

Yes, I’m a virgin. I think making your own will never taste like what you buy in the store. Just like Egglands Best isn’t the same as from your coop.
