Any Home Bakers Here?

Need some advice about something.

So, my grandfather a long time ago gave me a basic recipe for clam chowder. I believe I mentioned it once. It was basically potato soup base, celery, potato chunks, and clams with clam juice.

I have been tossing around the idea of adding more stuff to it, like herbs, maybe some more types of vegetables.

Basically, I'm planning on making my own recipe. My grandfather did it, and it's a family secret now, and now I want to try it.

Any ideas of what kind of herbs and veggies can go well in clam chowder?

Start off by rendering off some diced bacon. Save the bacon to add in at the end and fry the onions and celery in the bacon fat. the rest of the recipe is good. At the end, add a bit of dill to taste.

Another thing to try is a dash of cayenne pepper. Not too much but enough to add a subtle flavor
