The closest to soda for illness was when I drank 7-up after getting my tonsils out. It helped make my throat feel better.
Baking soda in water will either make me feel better or make me empty my stomach contents. Either way I usually feel better.
The Daughters like to chew on candied ginger and do not like the baking soda.

I had a friend that brought me ginger root to keep in the freezer for when I got sick. I HATED it!! I got used to it, but I hated it.But it has to be Canada Dry and I have gingerroot on hand for the rabbits so the kids know to cut a slice if they feel ill but have not gotten ill.
