Question for you pie bakers...

I have a bag of mixed frozen berries and want to make a pie with them. There are recipes for cooking the berries first and there are recipes that don't call for cooking them (they all include sugar & cornstarch for thickening).

Anyone know which turns out better? Cooked or just left frozen?

I freeze blackberries and I just use them frozen. I figure once that sugary filling is boiling inside that crust...

Pre cooked will cook faster and set up better. If you go with frozen, make sure that the filling is boiling before taking it out of the oven or you will likely have pie soup.

That would be simpler to just use them frozen. Think that's what I'll try.

Thanks!
Then there is mixing up the filling and letting it thaw for a bit....I never bothered though, once that crust is rolled out in they go!!! I cut back the sugar too so it’s a little tart, perfect for the sweet of the ice cream!

That’s true I bake bleeding berry pies! I also cut into them while they’re hot. Also I reduce the sugar so should add a little more thickener I suppose.

Made pizzas today. Went down well. Not made them for a bit.
