Any Home Bakers Here?

My oven is supposed to be worked on, on Dec. 7. Hope it gets fixed. I bought some Truvia white and brown "sugars" for baking and can't wait to try it in some cookies. Meanwhile I will envy all you early bakers!

I actually had this exact same issue happen when I lived in Boise. The issue with the oven, I mean. It turns out I needed a whole new oven.

We are able to figure this out by taking out the element that was not heating. We used a voltmeter to see if there was a complete circuit in the element. There was, which means that no electricity was getting to the element, meaning that we needed a new oven. If there was not a complete circuit, then it means the element was bad.

You can do this test yourself if you have a voltmeter and a way to take the element that is not heating out. It might save you some time and money.

On the other hand, if it turns out that your oven is broken and not the element, you’ll need a new oven.

Just trying to help out.

Thanks, Jared. I don't have a voltmeter and am afraid if I start taking things apart I will void my warranty. I will wait for the pro to get here on the 7th.

Tis the season to bake cookies fa la la la la la la la la.....etc etc.

I mentioned on @pennyJo1960 s coffee club thread that I was baking these and was asked if it was here on the home bakers thread. I looked, can't find it so I thought I would add it.

I found this recipe over 40 years ago. My original was lost during moving so I went on an internet hunt and found many many incarnations of it. This recipe is closest to the one I remember. I chose it as it is a small batch, approx. 2 dozen cookies depending on size. It has been adjusted to reflect my memories of the recipe and in no means do I intend to infringe on anybody's copyrights.

These are super cookies though. Especially if you are a chocoholic.
Chocolate Crinkle Cookies.
Ingredients:

1)1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder ( I use dark chocolate cocoa from Hershey's)
2)1 cup granulated sugar
3)1/4th cup vegetable oil or melted butter/margarine
4)1 tsp vanilla extract
5)2 large eggs
6)1 cup all purpose flour
7)1/2 tsp baking powder
8)1/4th tsp salt

9)1/2 cup powdered sugar. Set aside until later

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°

Combine first 8 ingredients and blend until mixed and forms a soft ball. Chill, then scoop by teaspoons full and roll into ball then roll dough ball in the powdered sugar and place on parchment lined cookie sheet.

Place into oven and bake for 12-13 minutes.

Cool and enjoy.

This is a small batch recipe which is what I wanted. Makes approximately 2 dozen cookies depending on size and are super delicious. Almost like eating a brownie cookie. The heavier the coat of powdered sugar, the more pronounced the 'cracked glass' finish on the baked cookie.

Merry Christmas everyone and happy cookie baking!
