I knew having a broody hen would be useful!

If it’s a cockerel, I’m gonna use it for meat. If it’s a pullet, I’m gonna use it for eggs.

Still unsure of the breed. Got the egg from a friend.
Is that a Dominique I see?

My Dominique, Tamar, and her Sussex chicks.

Good afternoon everyone.

I need to appropriately vent. I have to admit, I’m extremely frustrated with my grandparents because of their dementia.

We got a call from my grandfather, the one who has dementia, and he said that he was out of protein drinks and soda. We went to the store, 40 minutes away, to get him this stuff.

When we got to the assisted-living facility, we went into their room while they were at lunch, and we opened up the fridge to load it, only to find out it was completely full of protein drinks and soda.

I hate seeing them deteriorate like this. I hate hearing about their struggles. In a nutshell, I hate dementia. It just baffles me that they could be looking for something, have it right in front of them, and not recognize that it’s what they’re looking for.

This is just way too hard for me to watch.

Anyway, thanks for listening. On a different note, I’m making three Dutch oven desserts for Fourth of July. The city of Dietrich is holding an event in the park, so I am making some dessert.

I’ll post pictures later when I make them.

It's okay. My dh had dementia for 4 years before he passed. I have been there, I know. You either learn how to deal with it, or you'll make yourself crazy. I likened it to interacting with a 2yo who hands you a toy phone . You go along with it, they can't help themselves.

Did I get angry? Upset? Did I blow, and yell?

Yes.

But eventually I was able to stay calm.

And interacting and caring for him helped me become a better person.

Hang in there.

What desserts are you guys making for fourth of July? If I can't think of something more creative, I might just make some sort of mixed berry pie with blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.
I’m planning to make some lemon jello loaves, lemonade, and some banana bread if I feel up to it/have time. And steak, which reminds me I need to get that out of the freezer!
