I'm thinking the one is a production red, but the other I'm guessing easter egger or possibly Ameraucana. Lucy is on the left and Ethel on the right. Th
She looks different than my other easter eggers, especially with the little tufts on the sides of her head. She is so very sweet and just wants to sit in my lap when I go out to the pen. The other chickens don't like her so much but things are starting to calm down.
Very pretty! I would recommend getting better/more photos of the girls. I think they are girly, it would help to know the ages--they look three months or a bit more, no?
Ethel may be an true Ameraucana. In that view, she looks maybe like a Silver female, but a side photo and one fromt he front would really help. I am not an expert on Ameraucanas but there are those who are and it would be helpful to get more photos. Where did you get them from, might I ask?
Peeka 52---I guess that I have been wrong before on identification of birds especially with respect to the leg color as colors can appear off either in the photo itself, in my monitor or the shadowing and lighting. So I hate to label a chicken a mutt if it is indeed a purebred based off one picture.
On a further note, it would be helpful if you could provide me information regarding breed standard for leg color in true Ameraucanas. As I said I am not an expert and would like to learn more information from those that are! The only info I could find on the breed standard did not mention leg color, so could you help me out and let me know what the standard is for all of the 8 different colors as I presume they may vary depending on color? www.ameraucana.org/standard.html
Thanks everybody! I'm soooo glad they appear to be females since I already have 4 males. I'm getting rid of the younger roosters soon and will just have the 8 hens. I got them from a friend of a friend and don't remember where she said she got them. Her husband bought her the chicks for Easter and after a few months she decided chicken raising was not for her. But she did treat them as pets and they are very sweet and lovable. I'll see if I can get a better picture.
