Any idea what these are?

Soooo...
What does one do with turkeys if one happens to be vegetarian? Should I find them another home or keep them as pets? My kids do love the poultry

But we've already got two ducks, a rooster and a bunch of hens living in the henhouse...

I have to say, they are all quite cute!

By the way, thank you all for helping with the identification of my mystery chicks with bubbins ... I mean poults with snoods.

It would have been awfully surprising the raise them thinking they would grow into chickens. Right now I simply cannot stop laughing!

Snood... that is the word I was searching for

Thanks

A lot of people have had Turkeys for pets... but before having them grow up and live with your chickens.... you should make sure there is no cases of Black Head disease in your area.

Many here do not condone the mixing of breeds, as sometimes this can lead to problems... but others have also done it successfully. Good luck with whatever you decide! I plan to get a couple pet Turkeys someday

They have their own distinctive peeping that will put you up the wall when they're lonely or distressed. I try to make sure they all have friends.

I've raised all mine with my chickens without a problem, but I agree, you should check with your co. extention office and find out if there is a problem with blackhead in your area. My chickens are penned for the most part and the turkeys free, but they roost along the top rail of my pens at night.

The only worry I would have about raising them with kids is when the toms get older, they sometimes get aggressive if they are tamed and used to being handled. They get hormonal and territorial in the spring, and will do like a roo and lose their mind. The hens remain docile and won't behave aggressively unless they have babies or are nesting.

We did find a home for all the poults, thankfully. Thanks to everyone on this board for saving me from unsuspectingly raising turkeys!

We have tons of wild turkeys that live in our neighborhood - they are gorgeous! They are friendly and sometimes knock on the glass doors while you're working (with their beaks of course). We find them everywhere - on the cars, in the yard, behind trees. Truly free range and loving life. And the Toms are phenomenal! Only 1 or 2 in the whole flock and I rarely see them. But the Hens are easy to find.

yep those were definitely turkeys, we've been hatching two incubators at a time full of eggs, was feeding a 150 lbs of feed a week, we had a tree with a low limb and they would climb up in the tree and take the windchimes down,LOL
