Any ideas for making a brooder?

Hormones is a word we use to describe chemicals in our brain that cause us to act certain ways. One of those hormones cause chickens to have the desire to go broody.

A hormone you may have makes you want to give your boy/girlfriend a kiss.
It also may make you want to fight someone.
It makes the chickens want to hatch babies.
Like when people go to sleep early they grow up fast.

They're sort of chemicals that give animals - including humans - certain behavioral impulses. Like @Sublight said, lol.

To answer your original question, though, we used one of those big rubber-maid buckets, cut out the middle of the lid and put chicken wire on it, with the red bulb over that. The white bulb makes them think it's daytime and it will be hard for them to sleep unless you turn it off in the evenings.
I knew that.

How do I encourage it?
Give them a spot that may be suitable to brood in.
Dark, protected, and put 6-8 fake eggs in the box.
She needs to feel safe, and secure.

If/When she goes broody, put a feed and water container very close to her. I fenced her off from all the other chickens.
