hey guys! New here and new to raising chicks! I have a few that I’m uncertain about..a Light Brahma, a Buff Orp and Araucana! I’m pretty sure th Buff orp is a roo, but it has the maneurisms if a hen and the tail is round..also as a young chick, it feathered in much quicker than the others.. the Brahma seems to be a hen and so does the Araucana..thoughts? The Buff Orp is 6-7 weeks, the others are about 5. Thanks!

Hi and :welcome!

Let me start off by saying they are all super cute!

I've never had araucana, but I have ameraucanas, and I think that one looks like a pullet.

As for the buff orpingtons, it's hard to tell. I do have three of them. The females do generally feather faster than the males, but you have to compare them to other buff orpingtons because different breeds can feather at different paces. Generally the males get a big red comb and wattles pretty early on, and the hens can get a big red comb and wattles, but usually not until they are of egg laying age. A picture of it standing upright so we can see his/her feet and tail feathers would probably help!

I've never had a light brahma either, but looks also like a pullet to me. This is still a little young so post pictures of them again in a couple more weeks, should be easier to tell!

:)

Thanks! I’ll post a pic of the Buff Orp! I was thinking the other 2 were pallets too

Ok thanks! It is hard to tell at this age! Because of the comb, I'm kinda leaning towards cockerel, but pictures of how it stands and holds its tail will def help. In a couple weeks though it should be really easy to tell with the buff orp!
