Any ideas what this means?! Hens puffed feathers

Not laying isn't really that healthy. Chickens lay eggs

Not necessarily a sign of poor health--could be old age or broody, I have a 7-year old australorp that went broody about a month ago and hasn't laid since although she was laying about an egg a week prior, She's fine--trying to hatch a golf ball--but will flair her feathers at the other birds if she feels threatened,

Ok, did she puff more when you smoothed or was she indifferent?
I'm wondering if the mites didn't damage her cushion and she can't lay them down.
Another question, does her skin look o.k in that area?
@Chickassan i did pet her for a minute and nothing changed. Still puffed up.

I agree but for a 2 year old bird not to lay for a year until they are three...something is wrong.

Reproductive issues are all to common in chickens and sometimes there isn't anything we can do to 'fix' them.

I agree something is off. As she was 2 when she stopped. But she looks so healthy. She is the lowest in the pecking order very timid and will never let me touch her. I have to corner her to feel her. And when she’s in the nesting box (not laying) for 2 hours she lets me pet her with no stress. She doesn’t try and peck me.
I was wondering if she had mites on her legs
