Hi, I'm new. I've been doing chickens for 1 year, and I have a question: Any ideas what's wrong with my Rhode Island Red? She's got a bump on her back and her feathers don't seem to be regrowing? I thought she was molting, but she's been loosing her feathers for about 5 months now....

She's 1 year old. Spends most of her time hiding in the coop. I saw her on the nest box, so still laying... I think...Also still eating and drinking, as far as I know.

6 Hens and 1 rooster. I'm feeding them organic layer pellets and organic scratch grain (60/40).

Well, first that is too much scratch grain! Layer feed is very low in protein as it is and giving that much scratch grain is likely to make them borderline deficient. Feathers are made of protein so its going to be hard for her to regrow them with very little protein coming in.

She looks extremely over-mated. Are the other hens sexually mature? Does your rooster have long spurs? Does he mount them incessantly?
