Now that the girls are big and laying, we're changing out the brown baby girl box for the blue dog house. Plans are to raise it up on cinder blocks + a frame with hardware cloth. Also attaching a nest box (that has it's own roof) to the side of it (with access through the dog(chicken house) of course. Just wondering if anyone has advice/take-aways from thier own experience that I may benefit from hearing!!
THANKS!

Just make sure that the bottom of the dog house is still in a good shape, I have one the weather got to it and I had to replace a lot of wood, so I decided to start from scratch again.

We converted our unused doghouse into a chicken coop. We made the front opening larger and bought wood to make door for the front . Cut another small rectangular door on the side for ventilation and can use later for egg gathering. It worked out really well. Elevated it with about 3 cement blocks so you dont have to bend over much to clean it out or reach in. On the bottom we put thick plastic you use for light covers. Very cheap at Lowes. I put a regular light bulb in the heat lamp and pointed it down and leave it on all the time. That way it doesnt keep them awake at night and if its raining and cool they can get warm there. It helps when you have to go out at night too. The lights already on!
