I love the pictures of the chickens with the keets! Right now I have a banty hen outside with 5 keets. We also have the bator going with keets hatching as I sit here. I've got a sad story about the eggs in the bator, though. We had 2 guinea hens sitting on a nest. It was about 10:30 pm last Tuesday night. We noticed that one of the girls was off the nest. We knew that there was something seriously wrong if she's wandering around in the dark. We locked her in the coop and checked the nest. We believe the other guinea was taken by a coyote.
We found a ton of eggs and one broken egg with a 3/4 developed keet (dead of course). Some of the eggs were still warm so I told DH to fire up the bator. We candled and put anything that had more than a weeks worth of development in the bator. I was floored at the total count in our tiny bator....29 eggs! The first keets started hatching last night. As of right now we have 10 keets! 4 more have pipped. I think they'll hatch slowly over the next week. I'll post pics as soon as I get them off my phone!
