Thanks, Tonya! Yup, he contacted me. He's going to wait on the babies that are under my broody duck, because most of my current & expected ducks are now spoken for. I do have a couple I hope will hatch tonight or tomorrow morning that are not spoken for, but now that so many of my extras have homes, I'm not nearly as frantic. I can easily manage what remains until the right home comes along.

Anyway--thank you SO much for sending him my direction. I would love if there were enough new interest that I could put a batch of eggs in the incubator again soon. I do love to hatch!

Hey! All four hatched! It's not really a 100% hatch, because I started with six and lost two along the way, but it's the first time I've ever not lost one during the actual hatch, so I was happy about that.

Two were picked up by someone who had contacted me about wanting some pet ducks, and he took home a little fawn/white and a tuxedo blue. There are two left in the batch, and they're doing great.

The remaining eggs are coming along nicely. And your two black runners are awesome--they come running when they see us kneel down nearby, and they've trained the rest of their batch (there are three in the group that I'm retaining, so it's a group of five) to do the same. You're gonna love these little guys.

I can't wait. My big ones learned themselves to come up to the house and run like crazy when they see us outside and come to us. They do it for food but are learning they cant get said snacks until I can pet them, so they are becoming extremely friendly.

I cant wait to have some babies that are willingly friendly and not bribed!!! *does a happy dance*

Having to wait two hours never happens when people come to the rescue. There are several peole here who get birds from us who can attest to the fact that we arent anti-people and like to make people suffer around waiting.

Sometimes mistakes happen like one person making an appointment but failing to make sure enough people are there. Today three people showed up at once and well people just have to wait thats life. I wait longer than that at the drs office and I am paying them good money.

We are all human and all volunteers and very short on volunteers. Some of us, like me, are there 14 hours a day somedays and go pretty much the entire day in the 100 degree barn without a break to go eat or drink. There is no bathroom so forget taking a break for that too. We just doing the best we can with what we have.

Hi waterfowlrescue! I'm glad you've joined us.

I am sorry if I came off as offensive. I think you guys are great and the work you are doing is great, and everyone was very kind and someone did offer us water when I mentioned how thirsty my children were, so it was not fair to imply that they didn't care about us, and I'm sorry about that. In trying to be funny, I sometimes miss the mark.

By the same token, it was indeed a 2 1/2 hour wait--my husband and I both work from home and I was keeping him updated on our expected return time, so I was paying attention and was there from a little before ten to a little after 12:30.

My understanding is that the person who was scheduled to meet me got caught up on a swan delivery that took longer than she was expecting. The other folks there didn't know which goose we were there for. When the original person arrived, she wanted to change the goose's bandage and that took a really long time. I am not criticizing her for having her priorities straight--she was right to ensure the swans got delivered, and right to ensure that our goose came home only after a thorough health inspection and clean bandage. I'm just saying that this is what happened in my particular case.

And I know how hard volunteers work. I've been there. It's obvious that they care very much about the animals--the facility was clean and organized, and the animals were clean and healthy. With all the time and heart and sweat you and others put into the organization, it's irritating when someone implies you've messed up. You need recognition, because heaven knows you see enough heartache in a rescue to not need it from me.

Mistakes happen. I'm willing to believe that our morning's experience was a random and rare mistake. And I already believe that your work is wonderful and I'm grateful people like you are willing to devote so much to it. Thank you.

Oh, and I'm glad you've joined us here on this board too--people are often posting about rescue situations, and it will be wonderful to have your expertise available. Thank you for that too.

Oops--forgot to add--our goose from the rescue is doing great. The kids call her Cresty, and we call her Andromache--still haven't settled on which will stick, but I think the kids' name is winning out. She and my gander are getting on fine, although I don't think they're fully bonded yet. But they hang out together and get very upset when one gets very far away. Still, he doesn't like her in his pen at night and she sleeps in the pen next door.

Everyone who comes over comments on how gorgeous she is--like a swan. Her wing is completely healed and you can only tell it was amputated when she spreads her wings and flaps--puts her a little off balance, lol. She is wonderful and mild-tempered. We like her a lot. Thank you.

I might be interested in a adult runner drake- I sent you an e-mail before I saw this thread- I am in Asheville but my mom lives in Charlotte... so I find myself down that way. I have some promising looking Saxony/Appleyard crosses if you are interested in trading....
