Any New Yorkers out there?

W.CharltonChickens :

Hello everyone. We are located near Schenectady, NY. We've just started with chickens. Currently we only have 4 Silkies. But, we do have 12 Wellsummer eggs incubating, and in July we have some chicks coming from Ideal (Barred Rocks, R.I. Reds, and Ameraucanas). I'm going to be building a larger coop for them over the course of the next couple months.

We're very happy that we found BYC. I've learned quite a lot from everyone here.

Regards,
Todd

Welcome! I am curious to find out where in W. Charlton you are from? I grew up out there in the country, but now live in the Rochester area. I miss it at times and often visit my family there, but Rochester is my home now.

What chickens do you have??

I am from NY! I live in the Hudson Valley near Middletown, Circleville to be exact!

We're renting a farmhouse on Western Ave. It's beautiful out here. My wife and I both say that when we walk out on to the back deck it's like being on vacation. The house overlooks about 100 acres. Some of the fields are planted with hay and corn. The other part has 3 ponds. One pond is stocked with bass. The other pond is on a large fenced in field where 14 calves are currently residing for the summer. We have a family of Canadian geese which we are watching as the goslings grow up. And there are numerous other wild bird species that we watch at the feeders on the deck. It's just an amazing place to call home.

Currently we have only the four Silkies (Beaker, Snowball, Stratus, and Nimbus). We got them because they are so darn cute and they make us smile and laugh just watching them. We have 12 Wellsummer eggs in the incubator. It is our first attempt at incubating, so we're being realistic about the success of this. And, we also have 10 chicks that will be coming at the beginning of July (RIR, Barred Rock, and EE).

Regards,
Todd

Hi there! I am located in Utica, NY. My chicks are just a month old. I can't believe how fast they have grown...These are my first chickens. I have learned so much from reading everybody's posts! Thank you so much for sharing all the great info.

Just looked at your location. Sherburne, too. I'm in the midst of my first hatch of Polish, Cuckoo Marans and Easter Eggers. Have turkey eggs coming this week, too.

I'm in New York's Southern Tier/Fingerlakes area. Just got my flock on Sunday and I was rewarded with two eggs on Monday!

Hi All! I just got my peeps on Monday. 24 RIR. I live in Fulton County NY. My hubby picked the breed for its brown egg laying capabilities, winter hardiness, and friendliness. I'm a bit disappointed because I'd like some of the more unusual breeds. How can I name them if they all look alike? Oh well I'm sure I will have a chance to get more..LOL. I've been bitten by the chicken bug.
Just want to say hello. It looks like quite a few of you all live pretty close by.
