Any New Yorkers out there?

Welcome! It's a very addicting past time. I casually mentioned to the hubby that I would like to get chickens again back in late April. Well, check out the craziness in my line below. I really enjoy raising poultry and am anxiously awaiting eggs from my RIR's.

Yes, it is addicting!! We got 6 chickens last weekend at the Bath show. We've spent the last few days emptying out a garden shed and fencing in the back part of it for the chickens. Yesterday we got a run up for them and made a coop door for them. Today the window!!. LOL

I am in Sherburne. I hatched some Cuckoo Marans which are 5 weeks old. I plan to hatch their eggs in the spring. I may have some to sell then. Nothing now.

Ohhh awesome, I work in Norwich so I'm practically at your door. My 5 EE's chicks are only 8wks (I have 3 older/nonlaying) adults right now but I am supper excited about getting my first egg from them. They hatched out of very dark blue/green eggs...hopefully they carry that triat. Are your marans eggs really dark?

I got the eggs from a friend. The eggs were notably darker than other brown eggs. I won't know how my girls lay for about another 15 weeks. I have 3 EE pullets at 5 weeks also. They came from light blue/green eggs. I hope to get some that lay darker blue/green next year. I want to get some Ameraucanas cause I love the beards. I hatched a few different breeds to find out which ones I like best. My RIR's just started laying today - 2 eggs; yeah!

My EE's have beards (muffs?, I think they are called). Maybe if they lay dark green/blue eggs we could swap some eggs. My EE rooster is very handsome, all black and he was hatch from an egg that was almost turquois. I hope that gene shows up again down the line.
