Any Of You Ever lived In A Haunted House?

OMG! I almost posted that in the exact same words!! Then I chickened out. When I glanced at your post, I thought that maybe I had, but didn't remember or something. Gee, thanks for the heartstopping moment there!

lol
I think I may have had a ghostly visitor when I was a child. I was always very sickly. Sometimes, when in my room and feeling miserable, I would get a peaceful feeling. If I looked in the doorway, there would be a middle aged man in an old fashioned (green plaid) jacket and a hat standing there, just watching me. He made me feel relaxed and comfortable. I could then fall asleep. I finally asked my mom about him. She has no idea who he may have been. She wondered if maybe he was a family member (I'm adopted, so there's no telling) that was checking up on me or something. I'd like to think so. I miss him. I haven't seen him in years, although I think of him alot. I hope I haven't disappointed him somehow. I wish he'd come back to visit. I always felt that his name was Michael. Don't know why.

My question is how could you wait a couple months before seeing what was in the room? That would have been the first thing I'd have done.

Creepy story!

that would have been the first thing i did... I am to curious

Don't invite ghost into your home. If they are already there, you might as well figure out how to live with them but you don't know what kind of spirit might be attracted to your invitation.

OOOOOOOOH! Funny you say animal guides!!! I have been trying to meet mine through meditation. Im awful at meditation. I cant sit long periods of time because I slipped down a flight of stairs last january and injured it.

When I lay down to do it I usually doze off..

I want to meet them SO bad. I have a feeling its a deer but I think my preconceived notions are blocking me. I also think they dont want to come to me because I am WAY to excited to get to know them.

When I was about middle school age I would be left alone in the mornings to get ready for school. When I was finished with my shower and be drying off in the bathroom Id hear this walking up and down the hall. Very slow. I would hear my name 'Sarah..Sarah'. It scared me SO SO SO bad I would call my mom crying (I was use to this happening so I would put the phone in the bathroom) I hated it. It was pure torture for me to sit in that bathroom and hear something call my name. My mom always just laughed and would stay on the phone with me while I looked all over the house for something.
Today thinking back Im pretty sure it was my Spirit Guide. I wish I was still as open as I was back then. I think the fear I had shut some kind of door. There was a old man that use to walk through our house. I was sick when I saw him. He wore a red plaid shirt with suspenders. He walked out looked right at me (not very nice look either) then walked out the window. When I ran out and told my mom she said she thought to herself 'Oh no, shes seen him'. Mommy use to always feel him staring at her. When shed be doing the laundry he would stand behind her. She said it he had this POed attitude about him that she could feel.

My mom was pretty open to things. About 3 months before she died (last few time I ever talked to her) she said there were 2 people in her apartment. One would sit in the chair in her room holding a bowl when she would wake up in the middle of the night. The other would stand in the living room. She said she could never see their faces and they were pretty much black figures. They scared her. I think she knew the ending was coming for her and knew these 'figures' (which I like to believe were my family members watching over her and sending a message) were a sign of a coming end.

Im kind of sad I have not had any communications with her since she passed. Right after she passed I sometimes felt that she was there to support me through it and to be strong for my sister. Ive read though that a spirit will go into a sort of sleep for about a year to recoop after a life. Who knows. I hope it to be true because the year would be almost up. Im ready to see her again, atleast in a dream or something

I've been reading through and figured it was my turn to pipe up and share one of my stories.

I used to have a good friend that lived with her parents.Several years ago (about 5) I have gone over to see my horse and her mom made us some lunch. So we were sitting there chatting and the singing candle came on. I was looking around for a radio or something when he mom asked what was I looking for. I told her I was looking for the radio. She asked "Is it too loud?" I said "No, I just don't see one here" She laughed and said "Can you please keep it low, we have a guest for lunch today" I thought maybe one of her brothers or dad or someone was there in another room and hadn't come out to say hi. I didn't think anything of it really. Then a while later, it started up again, my friend and her mom just looked at each other and shook their heads. My friend said "It's our singing candle and he likes to play with it" I asked "He who?" Her mom leaned forward and whispered "A spirit who lives here with us"

So again she asked him to keep it down and again the music turned down. They proceeded to tell me about him and that most of the things in the house, including the singing candle, without batteries work when he is around. She got up and brought the candle over and showed me that it had no batteries!!!!
Over the years I got used to all the clanks and bangs, toys going off with no kids around, stuff like that. But he could have let me know he was there is a less creepy way...lol. Sometimes he gets his undies in a bunch and will do ornery things and can get physical. Nothing bad but will tug on your pant leg or tap you when you are in the bathroom, stuff like that. He locks and unlocks doors. Most times they say he is quiet and just likes his music.

I have several more, but I will leave them for another time

Meditation can be in whatever form most suits you, you know. I doze off sometimes too, LOL, but I usually have my cat on my stomach and that keeps me vaguely awake. Dreams can reveal a totem too (or confirm it... or something)... so no worries I think.
Have you read "Animal Speak" by Ted Andrews? That is what got me started. I put together my own meditations that work better for myself and my totem but it's a great starting point.

Many older houses are plagued by carbon monoxide emissions. Prolonged exposure can lead to illness that includes hallucinations. Sorry, but a lot of hauntings have been scientifically linked to CO. Mice are also responsible for noises otherwise unexplained.

Someone was once "laid out" in the house I live in (my grandparent's house). My uncle claims that it is haunted. Once, when he was in his room, his stereo suddenly went dead. Upon investigation, he found that it had been unplugged! I told him that it was probably so loud that it had vibrated itself away from the wall and had unplugged itself!

Oh, how weird, thanks for that link! I never associated the dreams with out of body experiences before. They always used to just scare me so much that I'd develop insomnia to try and avoid them from happening. I'd stay awake until 3 or 4 in the morning until I dropped off, and then the dreams wouldn't come.

I have to admit though, after considering it, that similar feelings happen often in the mornings when my husband gets out of bed early to go to work. Its like the potential is there, but it doesn't fully happen. Mostly I remain in a half-sleep state for a couple hours till its time to get up, but I have very strong dreams even though I'm not fully asleep.
Coincidentally, I stopped having the dreams when I moved in with my husband about 7 years ago, and the only inklings that they could still happen are when he leaves in the morning and I'm in bed by myself. Also, I avoid taking naps because that's the best chance of one of those dreams happening. Weird. I haven't thought about it in a while but its all coming back to me! I used to have issues going to sleep until I moved in with my hubbie. I guess I don't like to sleep alone!

I've had those exact feelings.

You're usually very vulnerable if you're extremely tired/exhausted. I experienced sleep paralysis or whatever you want to call it....in the hospital after the birth of my first child. And again after a long hike on the Appalachian trail......we really didn't bring enough food/drinks with us......after I got home and crashed into bed I had 2 encounters with this phenom...............

I had this experience: we had a home on the other side of town that we owned for 15 years. We had our two children growing up there and it just had a lot of firsts for us and it was a really cute home to start out in. This house had a lot of really good feelings with it.

So I think our imprint was there. We had three buyers for it, but couldn't sell it for some reason, so we had it rented out and took a loss on some of our investments to get the other house that we own now.

After some time,I had a very vivid dream that I was in my old house walking around (still being rented by people we know) and it was nighttime and I saw the pictures on the wall in the hallway of small children, I walked on and entered the living room (still total darkness) and saw a person sitting in a white cushioned chair by the light of the moon in the corner...smoking a cigarette....I saw the red ember and smoke...I thought..Oh...and woke up ..didn't think much of that until a few weeks later when Dh & I went to our old home to collect rent and check up on things.

When we entered the house, we walked around to check on things, and I saw the hallway where the kids pictures were, they were the same ones I saw in my dream.....and I saw the white chair in the corner where I had seen the person sitting smoking....It was like I was there during the night in my dream......but was I?

That is a cool story, it sounds just like dreams my mom has. She has also dreamt about real people and places/houses that she has never seen before. I could tell some good stories about her, but they sound very unbelievable to most people. I believe its real though, and even my dad, when they were still married, believed and saw first hand the weird psychic things she is able to do, and he's not the spiritual type at all. She's quite the lady, my mom is. Very eccentric and spiritual.

I think i do now...

Every night theres a loud banging or footsteps comming from my attic, and sometimes when everyone is down stairs watching tv, the will be footsteps upstairs across the landing. I once went into the attic after hearing noises and filmed something up there, freaked me out for life and i hate having to go up to get the christmas things or halloween thing down.

Also i have a few stories from my mum (who is a doctor):

One is when she was a student and driving home from the hospital one day at about midnight, she saw a girl in a white nightdress run across the road, the girl was about 6, so my mum got out the car to go check she was ok, and when she went to where the girl and run, it was just a brick wall and no sign of the girl at all.
After going home and talking to her roommates, it turns out every one of them had seen exactly the same thing on their way home.

Another one, when my mum was working in a hospital in london, there was a room where an older man had died a few years ago after staying in the same room for months, and since then, things in the room would move. Keys put down on the side would move to the other side of the room, they would come in after a patiant has left and find the bed already made, after no one has made it. And the last thing that ever happened in the room was a fan was on in the room, so my mum went in to turn it off, and realised it was already switched off, so she went to unplug it thinking it was jsut loose wiring and realised it was unplugged already and still running! she then said in the room "could you please turn the fan off?" and the next time she went in, the fan was off.
