Any one else have a hen when spurs?

I have about 13 Rhode barrs and noticed that one of the hens has spurs as long as one of my roos while all the others don't! I know she's a hen, she lays, but why the spurs? I've noticed that some of my younger ones that just are becoming of laying age might have one or two spurs growing out of they're flock too, and they're also hens. I also have one amerucana with a terrible attitude lol. They aren't mean just not very accepting of people though I hand fed them and handled them alot as chicks.

Some hens will just have spurs- might be genetic, but I am not an expert on genes sorry.

I have two hens with 2- inch long spurs and two roos with no spurs. (seems backwards, right??) LOL its actually fairly common from what I can tell. hope this helps!

Yep - which is why the presence, or absence, of spurs is a completely unreliable characteristic for using in gender ID. Of our current flock we have one with a full set of spurs, one that has some big ol' "buds" that stick out a good 3/4"+ from her legs but no spur in them and one with a similar bud on one leg, but not on the other.
