Any one know about Red Ear Slider turtles? pics added pg1

Right. We had a turtle for years, actually gave him to some friends that had a pond due to he got to big. Even the kids were able to pet him just keep your hands washed.

I have kept reptiles for well over 15 years and have never fallen ill as a result. My nephew loves to take my current snake out of the talk and carry her around. While it is true that reptiles are a common carrier of salmonella, they can be enjoyed safely with common sense and hand hygene. They really do make great pets!

Right, actually you should wash your hands after touching, cleaning up after, playing with any animal. Think about it. But you won't get sick just being in the same room. We moved our turtle outside just because it was so hard to keep the tank clean, even with a filter. They aren't the cleanest animals in the world and with more than one, you'll need a pretty powerful filter system. They do like to be completely under water at times, so you'll need to have part of the tank pretty deep. We used a turtle dock we got at petco which attached to the side, then filled the tank with water.

Exactly. My boys also have a snake and a gecko. Great pets, no allergies and if they forget to feed them 1 day no biggie. Easy to care for. The turtle was actually the hardest due to cleaning the tank. I had to do that one.

Thanks every one, boy for a minute there i got real nervouse.
right now they are in a i think a 25 gallon tank, not really sure, i had a 50 gallon tank a month ago but filled with a lot of beautiful fish and this tank is less than half the size. will that be ok for now? there shell is about maybe 3 inches long.

Red ears get larger as they get older...they can get up to 6" or so across the belly. I use the belly for crafts and the backs for bags.

Ten gallons of water per inch of shell. They eat gold fish and reptomin turtle food.Light is important and my son said I can give you his email if you want to ask more questions...he has one and its his pride and joy!
