Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Still waiting on our hens to lay. They are about five & a half months old. We saw online that the change from the breeder to us may cause them to regress a couple of weeks, new surroundings and all. They seem pretty happy with their feed & new home, so we will see. This is our first time to have chickens, so we are newbies just like the hens!

And here is our typical egg haul. Like I said before, I do not get eggs from all my birds. I know my little copper EE is not laying, and I think one of the Cochins is not laying either. Does anyone know what causes the color change like on that 4th egg from the left? It must be the same bird doing it, but I cannot figure out which one.

Those are beautiful egg, Loghouse. My next group of hens is going to have some color in them. You think you have trouble telling who laid what, you should have 8 Australorps who lay tan, tan, tan, tan, tan, tan, and tan. They're not all laying though but I don't know which ones. I read somewhere that if you check behind the earlobes that that color will be the egg color. Anybody know if that applies to all breeds or any breeds, for that matter.

yup. It is the tan ones I cannot figure out.

There are 9 hens but only 6 eggs so I have 3 not laying. The giant white egg comes from my skinny little leghorn, green from my grey EE and the dark brown from the Welsummer. The copper colored EE laid blue eggs, but we haven't gotten one from her since October. All the rest I think lay tan/pink eggs.

So I still have 2 of Greta's green eggs left, I am having a very hard time using them. My hubby is being very understanding about it. I just feel that if I use them up then she is really gone. I thought I was okay with this all, I guess not. I just wish I knew for sure what happened to her. It would make it so much easier to not have that little glimmer of hope every time I go out to the coop.
My Mom is a cashier and this lady came though her line with a reusable bag that was made from one of the Purina feed bags. My mom told her the story of my chicken disappearing and she told my mom if I would like another EE to let her know and I can have one. I just don't want to deal with the quarantine time and the introduction of 1 chicken.

This has just been an emotional week starting with my MIL's dog passing which was really a good thing because he had cancer. Then my cousin had a heart attack at 41 yrs old. his arteries were 99% blocked. They did angioplasty on him and said because there is not a history of heart attacks or heart disease in our family with proper diet and exercise he should be fine. Thank the Lord.
Sorry for my vent/rant There is more but I don't want you guys thinking I just have one crazy family. lol

One crazy family? You should hear what I have been going through with my two teenage sons! Somedays, I just want to escape to the USV Islands, (only you guys would know where to find me), and not return until they are gone and graduated with families of their own, and they can know what they've been putting me through! Vent all you want kiddo, we are all here for you! So sorry about your cousin, yes, so important to take care of yourself. I am in the throws of losing 25 lbs of stressful eating winter weight! Stinks!

More importantly, I so hear you about Greta's eggs, still can't get over how she just vanished. I am so sorry love. I am the same way about thinking about bringing new birds here. The worry of them bringing something in, and the quarentine, and the stress of introducing new birds...ack! I made a connection with a woman about taking one of her roosters, while I address the issues of getting rid of that, but that too seems daunting...

I wish it was only teen age boys drama. ugh, no much more crazier then that. My cousin(Kim) got divorced last year and had no place to stay. She lost her kids because she let her older 2 kids drink ages 16 and 18 at the time. She has not made very good choices in men and has been "engaged" 3 times in the last year to different men. No she is not very smart. Well she moved in with my Gram a month ago. My Gram is 82yr old and still lives on her own. my Grandpa passed away 20 years ago. My Uncle moved in with her to help her out but she didn't need him to and he move out 10 yrs ago when he got married. My Gram was doing her a favor letting her move in. WELL Kim's back with her old BF that she broke up with a few months ago when she found out he was a CHILD MOLESTER. She moved this man in to my Grams house. My Gram lives 2 houses away from an Elementary school. This guy is registered as a sex offender at my Grams house.

I am SO ****** and there is not much legally we can do because my Gram said he could stay a few nights until he found a place of his own.
