Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

So sorry kdwag... you know, some of them are just bullies I guess. Perhaps now, we have to just let them dook it out, and see what transpires. I would say as long as there is no serious blood flowing, flesh tearting/eating perhaps they just have to work it out. If there is the blood flowing, flesh tearing, you have a decision on your hands. We all have different levels of what we can tolerate, and what drives us to tears. When I mentioned in another thread that I couldn't stand the bare spots, and now bare heads some of the girls have due to Dukes rough mating, I got blasted out of the thread by the old timers who thought I was some sort of tree hugging softee. I guess some people chalk that up to a rooster being a rooster, but when I hear there are plenty of roosters that don't pull feathers, and bare their girls backs but still manage to fertilize eggs, I realize I too have a decision on my hands. That combined with his attacking people,, I have a decision on my hands! I think I am realizing what my decision is going to be, but in the meantime, I too am putting up with behaviour I wish I could change. If she were mine, and she ripped up another hen again, I would rehome her. Easier said than done I guess, but try to think about your options. I have started to. I have heard about a woman who has a huge free range farm. Duke sounds like the perfect rooster, he will defend to the death. Maybe that is why I still haven't lost one, he is quite the protector.. a stupid protector, but a protector none the less.

Hang in there honey,, you'll come to the decision, and I am sure it will be the right one for you,
MB

I age with this response. Some chickens are just mean, hopefully she will mellow out for you kdawg.

MB, I am right with ya on the waiting out the rooster thing. The one we have is good enough, but he does give me the stink eye and Needs to be put in his place every now and again. Thing is, since I have my little girls around, if he ever decides to go after one of them, dinner will be his next appointment.

I have 2 that squat, but no egg song or eggs yet. They are enjoying some tomatoes today. Maybe the will repay with eggs tomorrow!!

I have heard the egg song several times now for about 2-3 weeks from my BA - no eggs yet. I have three girls and this afternoon ALL three
squatted

. I am so excited about the squatting that I can't imagine how excited I'll be about the actual EGGS.

I have a feeling this is going to be a slow egg day. We had a storm last night, complete with lightning and thunder, and I think the girls didn't get their beauty sleep.

My RIR, Lucy, is the guard whenever anyone lays. She also sang for everyone too when they laid their first. She doesn't sing anymore :( I noticed she is sort of the protector/watcher over the flock, except when Clemi goes on attack. LOL Everyone did okay yesterday, I did separate them in the runs a couple of times but left the runs connected. Now today, she bit Clara's head, two wounds on the top, so I threw her in the barn and she laid an egg. LOL Now she's back in the run but separated. Tomorrow they're calling for rain so thinking it may be a barn day for her. They do go to bed ok with no bickering. Last night they didn't get free range time because I was mentally done with all of them.
