I would love to join this too! I bought my first 4 chickens last march and then through a painful lesson about how determined dogs can be lost and gained several more. now I am up to 34 and I am patiently waited my wyns and my seramas to start laying! This is more fun than I first thought it would be! I love watching them and especially how they all come running when they hear the treat bag rustling!
I am still very very new and this will be my first winter with my girls so any advice or tips would be appreciated greatly!

red star at 20wks started laying everday last week, the partridge rocks daily for a few days now, eggs are all still small :p

snobby black austrolorp 19wks keeps getting in the nest but no egg yet. she stays back while the others say hello.

when lucy the attack dog guards us from squirrels, the "mean girls" try to come in.

zoom lens on the snobby sheila.

I'm new at this too, got my first hens a few months back, i spend a lot of time watching them and love it, feeding time they see me coming from a long way and get very exited, a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

that's great farm girl1!
does anyone have any experience with seramas? I have 2 hens and 1 roo. I was told they were about 3 months old when I got them. are they very broody? do they mate well? they seem very calm and friendly, my kids just love them! we have had them for about a month now and want to add soon.

Seagirl... my sympathies for your lost girls. I had a bad dog issue as well. Went from 8 to 2 chickens... Now I have 11 girls with 9 (4 month old) babies that a chicken and a turkey hen hatched out. I had some Roosters for a while. Now I have 2 Roosters again;) Though this time they are in a separate pen. Sorry I don't know about Sermas.... Hopefully someone else will chime in. Congrats on eggs and good luck.
Cyndirh you have some beautiful girls there. Wonderful eggs... don't worry. They will get bigger over time;) I love that all the chickens have a different personality. Even the mean ones;)
Robjones... Really did not know what we were getting into. My mom only thought of that she hated chickens when she was little. Now they are mostly her girls;) We both have so much fun watching them, giving them treats and listening to them ... I did not know chickens made so many different sounds. :)...

Hey guy's today is the first day I got 3 eggs and this is how I see the situation, the one on the left is a first its the smallest, the one in the middle is a small medium from my second girl that started to lay about 3 days ago and the one on the right is a shop size large and that is the second of its size from my first girl that started to lay about a week ago........this is getting very exiting now.

All of the early eggs I got that were a good size had double yolks. Now that they are laying nearly every day I don't get double yolks very often. But I did finally get my first blue/ green egg.
