Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Thanks! They are sweet. I don't have a roo yet, I ordered one roo when I got my girls from Ideal, but they mis-sexed him and I wound up with 13 girls from Ideal (down to 12 after a mishap). I wasn't thrilled with the colors the chicks were (all the same color) so I went to the local feed store and found a couple that were a little different than the ones from the hatchery. I do plan on getting a roo this spring, I want to hatch out a few chicks each year for replacement purposes.
HA! I ordered 10 girls from Meyer and got 9 and one Roo! You would think with all the poor lil male day olds, they could have picked one for someone who actually wanted one!

How are the colors on your EE eggs? BO's are pretty birds,, love their color with the striking red combs in contrast. So pretty.

Most my girls look similar to these two Blondie and Mohawk:

My eggs are an almost white blue to a pale blue, the greens are light green to olive green. I had 2 orange/pink speckled eggs for my first eggs but have not seen them since.

Still waiting on someone to lay this morning. Yesterday I saw Pepper mounting my two americanas which had previously ran every time he tried mate with them so that is a good sign. All 10 of them do the egg squat for me which makes Pepper not so happy. Now if someone would just sing the song I will be ready to run to the coop and find who is laying! I sure would like to see two eggs this morning. Only having 1 out of 10 laying is better than nothing but 8 out of 10 would be much nicer!

Some days I look at my girls and think...yeah, they're ready! It's going to be any day now! And then other days I'll think...is that comb red or dark pink? So yesterday I was sure none of my younger girls were going to lay any time soon. But this morning I've been watching them through the window, and my EE Irlene keeps climbing up to the nesting box, then climbing back down. And Kenny Rogers is chasing her all over the run, trying to dance with her, but she's not having it. Kenny isn't haven't much like with his girls lately. My theory is that his legs are too short. Don't tell him I said that.

WE are in the exact same place.. one of out of 9 laying, and I have yet to hear what I thought was the traditional "egg song". We rented next to a farm for a year, they had abougt 30 chickens, and I distincly remember that "bawk, bawk, bawk,,baaaacaaawwwww". I now know what that was!

I have a funny story about squatting that I am going to cut and paste from a post I made on another thread I also read every day. I had sought out some advice from some experienced chicken owners there concerning my Roo Duke who made a run at me because I was petting one of "his" girls. She responded in an informative way about being assertive. Here is the post I put up on the other thread. Thought you'd get a kick out of it.

"
If you all remember my post about Duke's behavior yesterday, and after Delisha's great post, I seized the day with stick in hand whenever I changed out the water and checked for another egg (still only one a day, come on girls!). Well, I did approach, approach, approach, and advance and advance advance. He moved away from me, and one time, when I set down the plate of chopped up cherry tomatoes that had gone wrinkled, I got in his way, and when he showed the least sign of fluffing up, I made him move to the other end of the pen to wait. Just let the girls eat for a moment.

I've never seen a real squat, thought I had when Kate one of my BR let me pet her, but now realize that wasn't one. As I turned to leave, with my eye on Duke of course, I leaned down to pet Matilda, one of my PRed's as she is the one giving me the lone egg. She immediately dropped to the floor, wings out, and head bowed. She looked like she was playing dead...lol. I was like.. Aww.. thank you Kate..and gave her three nice strokes and she promptly stood up, and shook off, and I realized we had just had a moment....lol.. seriously though, I wondered if after the girls seeing me make Duke move all day, in their eyes, I was now dominant. Very coincidental that the first squat for me came after I spent the day moving Duke around like he was my subject.

One more observation on this.. after I left the pen, closed up, I was almost back to the horse barn and heard the sound of one of the girls being covered, and sure enough,,, Duke was on top of Matilda...as if to say.. oh yeah, you bow to her.. well watch this. Love triangle in my chicken run!

You will be a couple of weeks away. I wonder if combs and waddles fade in the cold or winter. I suspect my girl who had the reddest comb might have got a bit of frostbite from the single digit nights we had as her points on the front are faded and one is a bit grey. Other girls are a bit less red too. I have to ask over at the other thread. I am such a newbie, I don't know these things. I have 4 or 5 girls climbing up the plank, making their small bawk, bawk, and coming back down as well. Must be all practising going on.
You/we will have more eggs soon enough!

My chickens combs always change colors a little. They turn redder when they're either hot or excited, and more pink when they're cold or relaxed. I can pet them and watch the color change. I often have frostbite issues with the chickens who have the biggest combs. I'm pretty sure my Jersey Giant has a couple of spots on hers. I hear you're supposed to have good ventilation in the coop to prevent condensation, but my coop is very open and well ventilated. I actually think the cold and moisture might be the problem. We live in the mountains, and the coop is next to a river. I hope we both get more eggs soon. I'm still only getting one egg a day. It's so tricky judging development with peacombs.

I just went out to give the girls their fermented feed, and was petting one of the EEs, and noticed she's starting to develop wattles.

I've never had an EE with wattles before, although I know it happens. And why is she just now getting them at 33 weeks??
