Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

That is weird ... I got an egg today that had no shell as well. It weirded me out a little. I thought at first that maybe I had a broken egg and maybe an egg eater. But no... I could find no shells any were and there was some egg kind of smeared around. yuk....
Hope your finger gets better soon. Goodnight everyone. and may your sweet egg dreams come true !

Brooster, Most of my hens laid within a couple days of relandscaping the nest box. Some of them just rearranged the straw, some kicked all the straw all the way out and others just pushed it all to one side to get to the bare wood in the bottom of the boxes. Crazy chickens. I have gone back and put carpet in the bottom of our boxes because we had one egg crack from the drop to the bare wood.

Sluggospud, I think your boxes look fine, in due time your will be getting eggs.

My neighbor, who I got my rooster from, also got an egg with no shell yesterday. Maybe it was some kinda National No Shell Egg Day and we just didn't get the memo. I took her some oyster shell just in case thats what they needed.

5 eggs again yesterday. Hoping for 8 today. They are gonna be on there own today with kids at school and I will be gone all day so maybe...

Hi everyone....

So, it is totally freezing outside. Right now the temp on the barn says it's 3 degrees,, I am sure it is going lower by nights end. Worried about the girls, I keep thinking of all the articles I have read on here about heat in a coop is not needed,, only good ventilation! Wow... they must be very cold.

New thing to share.. my DD came home early sick from school today. She wanted scrambled egg,, and so we broke an egg open, and found this!

Now, we all have seen blood spots in our eggs, and as we all mentioned before the little meat spots too... well, this was just a bit to much for my liking. Glad my daughter didn't scream and run, and turn her off eggs for a while... she was just like..."eww... what is THAT?" Looks like a little cartoon of a garden snake. I didn't feedit to her, but did scramble it up and gave it to the dogs. The girls had gotten scramble yesterday, so didn't want to give them too much.

On a lighter note... thought you all might enjoy this video for a chuckle.

Hmmmm my first thought was I'd eat it anyway, but maybe when actually faced with it, I wouldn't....

That video is just fantastic. I lived in the UK for nearly 20 years, and his expressions are just soooooo Brit. Very funny - and another amzing egg adventure. I would love to get one like this!

I have read all the assurances about how much cold they can handle, too. It seems so unbearable to us, but they have such amazing feathers. Their roosting posture is ideal for keeping their feet warm, too. I feel sure they will be fine. Maybe a nice warm breakfast treat as soon as you arise? Get them started for the day.

When mine were little - I got them at 8 weeks old in the winter - they were all keen enough to get on my lap, sometimes three at once. I would encourage them up with a treat and then warm their feet with my hands. I told DH it was to get them familiar with me touching them anywhere, for future health checks, but we both knew it was because I am a soft touch and felt sorry for their cold tootsies.

Let us know how they are after the cold night!

21 eggs since last Friday! Now we're getting the surplus built up! I discovered the girls were cleaning out the nest boxes (scratching all the hay out) and laying on the floor of the coop. It was like an Easter egg hunt trying to find all the wooden eggs. I found several real eggs in the mix. Yesterday we got 5 eggs all in the nest box since we put a board over the boxes to contain the hay and the scratching. I think all six must be laying--or very close to all six girls.

Marvelous AuntB!

I found two wooden eggs OUTside the coop yesterday.. They must have scratched and scratched them out the door and down the chicken plank! Have you given us any pics of your eggs yet? I'd love to see them!
