Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

debbie, I have a physical in two weeks, and I am petrified to see what my cholesterol reading will be! We have only gifted 3 dozen out,,, my husband has eaten maybe 2 dozen, kids have enjoyed eggs on the weekends, I have 3 at home, but I think the bulk of them I have eaten. I only have 18 eggs on the counter right now... YIKES! Oh wait, I did make lots of french toast for my sons sleep over last Saturday. But still,,it has not worn off yet, how delicious they are! I did read our fresh eggs have less cholesterol than store bought eggs, not to mention healthier. I think I have to start controlling myself.

I would love to get to the point where I put a sign out front and maybe sell some to the people who drive by. I think I would need a second flock though. I mean, even if I had 8 eggs a day, (more likely will be 6/7, that still wouldn't be enough to sell more than 2/3 dozen a week. I did get the girls for our personal enjoyment, and to share with friends and family. I am actively looking on Craigslist for a used shed to perhaps get some of those fantasy breeds I would like. I also want to get some color in the egg basket!

I too have elevated cholesterol, I learned about it last year during my lab work up. I told my Doc great we got chickens for eggs at home and I am just now starting to like eggs. She told me it's not eggs or meats that I need to worry about it sugars and carbs. :( some of my favorite thing to eat.

Hello All,
I am also waiting on my 12 ladies to actually contribute to the Homestead.. My poor Roo dosent know what to do. I have 6 RIR and 5 White Rocks with a July 19, 2012 Hatch date. Still no eggs, If my calculations are correct im over 21 weeks. I live in coastal South Carolina where it never gets to freezing. (85 degree Christmas this year) So im not sure what to do. Rosco the Rooster has started Crowing, well I guess you could call it that. Is it common to be waiting this long for eggs? From reading the other posts it seems a bit late. But I still find encouragment in the fact that others are waiting as well.. I will post some pics soon.

P.S. Im thinking of changing their feed bucket to a Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket...Maybe that will be a subtle hint... haha..

I bought an egg skelter from MannaPro. It's nice and sturdy, and MannaPro has very quick shipping. I ordered this on a Saturday and we had it on the following Wendesday!

Here it is with our very first egg. We're getting a few more eggs because we have 2 out of 4 laying right now. My little flock will be 22 weeks old on Saturday.

Congratulations on the egg! See how much room you have to grow your egg collection! Once they start gearing up you'll be pleased with how it soon builds into a lovely spiral for you.

I only have one laying and mine were hatched in April and May. But the one laying just started last week so I am hopeful. Good luck and the kfc idea is hilarious!

Morning guys!

To our Egg waiting thread Cobb! We feel honored to be your first post on BYC! Great place here! I have a small flock from a July 23rd hatch date, so your flock is just a fewdays older than mine. My first egg came on December 31st, 2012. I only had one egg a day for the first 8 days, then the second one came for a few more days, then it took off from there. The first egg came when the flock was 23 weeks. By Monday they will be 28 weeks, so this is the age of your flock.

I'm totally jealous of your location! One of the few states I'd like to live in other than NY is South Carolina. Love it there! May I ask where you got your flock from. Are they heritage birds? I know for a fact heritage lines take a lot longer to get to POL than most hatchery strains. I have met a woman on here I may order some heritage RIR from and she said her birds generally don't mature until 7 to 9 months. The perk with them is,, they lay far longer in years than most hatchery stock.

Don't worry, your eggs will be coming soon. Other than providing them will good care, food and shelter, there really isn't much you can do to force it on. Do you haveany of the signs of red comb and waddles? Is your roo mating with them. If he is, have no fear, he knows better than us, eggs are surely coming soon! We love Pictures!

Oh forgot to share a picture from yesterday that was just precious. My nephew came for a visit yesterday, and he is such a handsome little prince. He loves all the animals here, but of course, the fatty fat piggy girls that they are, assumed he was bringing them food, and right after this sequence of pictures, pecked at his sensitive little hands, and sent him into a tizzy, understandably, they are starting to hurt! Just too stinking cute not to share....
