Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

So cute MB! Hope he won't be afraid of them now.
We have a 2 hr delay... and don't you know... that dang rooster woke up the kids! He is getting louder and actually sounds like a rooster, not a grumbley ol man.

I had a lot of reading to catch up on this morning! We got another 4 inches of snow last night, and school is cancelled again. It's 14 degrees outside, and tomorrow is Groundhog Day, but he's probably frozen in the ground, so he definitely won't see his shadow.

Does anyone else here have problems with groundhogs eating their chicken feed? They are strong animals, and good diggers. I have a time keeping them out of my coop.

MB, your nephew is adorable! Little kids and chickens...2 of my favorite things.

Red, I love your daughter's drawing! How old is she? My daughter did this drawing last summer. I framed it.

That's supposed to be me and my Buckeye rooster. I told her he was going to be the biggest rooster ever when he grew up, and she took me literally.

I left them in the nesting box, maybe that will gave them inspiration... right???

Thank you so much!! That really puts my mind at ease.
I ordered my ladies from Murray Mcmurray. Im not sure what Heritage birds are... sorry, still a newbie. I originally ordered 25 and split them with riend who already had an established flock.
My "mystery bird" I recieved from them turned out to be "Rosco" our awesome rooster (he thinks he is a parrot, flies up to your shoulder and waits until your done putting feed out)
I have noticed a couple of the girls turning red around the face. but most are still pink. I sure it wont be long now.. We had a lovely pep talk this morning, and Im SURE I got through to them this time!!
We love it here in SC as well. We live in Beaufort, so we have island chickens, Another thing ive noticed is that my Ladies refuse to go into their coop. They would rather roost outside all night in their enclosure. Is that normal? im assuming it isnt cold enough for them to need to, just curious.

This is such a great forum. Thanks again for everyones help and encouragment.

Hey Brooster, My daughter just turned 10. I showed her the picture online this morning and she was upset with me that I put it on this thread. She said to me "dad, i just did a quick picture. I didn't even put it on good paper. Now I'm gonna have to draw another one so people can see how I really draw!"

I didn't realize I was causing a problem! Oops! So maybe if your lucky you will get another picture this weekend.

I was just out at the coop and Lemon was being very vocal, so maybe she might be getting back into laying form. Her neck is looking better, a few feathers have come back in and they are hiding some of the exposed skin. Maybe I will have a great report tonight.

Hi all... My egg count for January is 73 eggs. But that does include the Turkey eggs. My 2 girls that are laying are also from Murray McMurry. I did a slit thing with some other people Cobb. Good luck with your girls. I sure it will be soon as well.
MB your nephew is so cute... Those pics are great. And glad Lemon is feeling better. I will keep my fingers crossed for you... well sort of kind of need my hands for work ;) I am an ASL interpreter.... got to run...

How old are the Americaunas? That will be exciting to see what color they lay... I so want some. What color are yours, the chickens I mean, not their eggs.

This is Ghost

and Goblin. They were born October 31 so I have a while before they start. He had 3 for me me to pick from, light medium and darker brown LOL. My grand daughter picked these 2 out of the 3. They are in with the other girls now but will not come out of the coop at all :( I let the other girls out into the yard today but new ones sill wont wonder the run, not sure what to do :(

I guess I should change the egg count... it is 56 chicken eggs for the month of January. My wonderful Tia Turkey has laid 17 eggs

I did not think she would lay that many... Thrilled. My little gold star is 12 weeks old... Should be another 6 to 8 weeks at least before she starts to lay. She is starting to get wattles but I can see she is a long way off.
