Update Coming Soon!!!!!
I knew it would be soon,, Red.... TELL US!

I figured I would keep you guys in suspense like the chicks kept me in suspense until today. The girls were as usual this morning when I check on them around 9, just my ISA Brown in the nest box. Around 9:30 I had to head out for a bit but before I left I checked the boxes and the Brown now had a RIR in the box with her so things were looking good. When I arrived home at 10:30 I checked and there they were, two nice brown eggs side by side! YEAH YEAH YEAH Finally I have to wait no longer. I was not expecting anything from the RIR because I have not even seen her near the boxes so I was shocked that she layed today. Here is a pic of our first multiple egg day. The ISA Brown on left and the new RIR on right.

WIth the addition of the RIR that gave us our first dozen eggs. The picture is our first dozen minus 1 we sampled.

I was totally content with the day at this point. I later went to start mowing the yard around 11:30 and I opened the door on the run to let the chicks out of the pen to chase bugs while I was mowing. They all wandered around for awhile around 12:30 I noticed Lemon(the americana I have been seeing in the boxes) leave the flock and run up the steps of the human door on the outside of the coop. I asked her what she was doing and she looked at me like she had forgotten something inside and needed in so I opened the door for her. She immediately went into the coop and into the nest box, by now I wasn't expecting anything. She relandscaped the box for the 7th time in 2 days and the joined the rest of the flock, who by this time had all gone back into the run. When I finished mowing at 2:30 I did not notice Lemon in the run so I checked the boxes and she was sitting all by herself in her chosen box. I showed my daughter her chicken and told her I think she is about to lay so lets leave her alone. About 5 minutes later I was getting impatient(like a father in the waiting room) when I heard the sound I have been waiting to hear since I got my chicks 6 months ago. Lemon sang the most wonderful version of the egg song I have ever heard(actually the only one I have ever heard). By this time the whole flock decided to join her and it sounded similar to the Halleluah chorus! I went and got my daughter again and we opened the boxes to reveal the prettiest blue egg I have ever seen. YEAH YEAH YEAH! Here is a picture of all three eggs from today.

This is Lemon about 2 months ago(she would not allow me to post pictures after the first egg because she was still feeling like she was carrying a little pregnancy weight).

It is also great that they are 3 for 3 in getting the first egg in the boxes.

What a great day and it was well worth the wait! I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

I for one am so stinking happy for you Red, it was so worth the wait! I am so happy your daughter was there to share it with you. Gosh she will always remember that, her whole life, and that is what life is all about. I can't smack the smile off my face... so wonderful!

Now, this being said.. I AM SO FRIGGING JEALOUS OF THAT BLUE EGG!!!

Lemon is adorable.. what a pretty girl. They definetaly desearve a special treat tomorrow. I gave my girls yogurt with blueberries and raisens mixed in my first four egg day.

Forgot to mention, I have been saving all my egg shells, drying them out, and feeding them back into the oyster shell container. They pick out all the shells, they must love them, and they must taste good.

Love that blue egg.!

I too have been feeding any eggshells we used back to them since about thanksgiving. They definitely prefer them over oyster shell. Thanks for all the kind words. I really have no idea what to expect tomorrow!

After 3, 4 egg days in a row, I must admit, my nose was a little twisted when I only got two eggs yesterday,, all dejected I was.. had to laugh at myself.

I was in Delaware this morning, and DH said at 7am, there were three eggs all in nest box #2. I guess the two new layers who missed yesterday, donated first thing in the morning!

Congrats Red! That blue egg sure is pretty!

No new eggs for me today, but the camera did catch a picture of Irlene, an EE, checking out the nesting box. And the pictures are time stamped so I also know that it took my Jersey Giant exactly 95 minutes to lay an egg today. Sheesh! I predict some serious nesting box traffic jams in my future.
