Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

GRRRR seriously 2 nights in a row I have dreamed of getting blue and green eggs. I know that's not even a possibility since I only have 1 EE. Today we will be getting 9 hours 21 minutes and 58 seconds of daylight. Maybe with yesterdays daylight and todays daylight more then 1 chicken will lay an egg.

Ok, I'm at 22.5 weeks, and am waiting for my barred rocks to earn their feed!

They are all from the same hatch group, though one seems to be a bit ahead with comb & wattles. I'm sure the others are just a few days behind:

I was watching them, and haven't seen them go into the nest boxes (which have wooden eggs in them). I opened up access to the boxes about a month ago, though these girls have grown a bit since then. I was wondering if I need to put in aa ledge to make it easier for them to get into the boxes. I could removed the thin shiplap board and replace is with a 2x4 on edge, which would make it easier for them to jump up. I've seen a couple of small feathers in the boxes, so at some point they must have visited.

Sluggospud your girls look really close to laying. Maybe another week their combs not quite redden up completely. It looks like the nest box has enough room for them to get in and out of. Is it tall enough for them to stand up in inside? From what I have seen chickens stand up while they do the actual laying of the egg.

I've also had multiple dreams now about finding blue and green eggs. It is possible on my end, since I have multiple EEs and Ameraucanas, but they're still not laying. My oldest Ameraucana turned 9 months today, but she hasn't shown any interest in the nesting boxes. Three of my EEs now visit the boxes several times each day. They move around the dummy eggs, and one of them sat in the box for an hour yesterday. So I think they're in a race to lay the first green egg. Hopefully...

Our temps are dropping into the single digits for the next couple of days. I wonder if this will deter them?

Ours are pretty close in age my 3 newest hatched out the 25th of April. The 2 Wellies started laying back in October when my 5 Speckled Sussex started molting. It has been since November 11th since I have gotten 2 eggs in a day. I just think my EE is waiting for her bday before she lays her first egg. lol

That's what I'm thinking too! haha Mine was actually hatched on my birthday (April 21). Maybe she's saving it as a B-day gift for me?

For all of you who've gotten all these new eggs this month...how long after they started checking out the nesting boxes did they lay an egg? Irlene has been going in and out of the box 6 times a day for about 2 weeks now!

Hey all. Have not been on in a minute, but I am back. I am from St. Thomas US Virgin Islands. My hens are doing great!!!! Guess what I heard so clucking for the past few days.... no eggs yet tho but I am excited. My girls are officially 5 months so fingers crossed that I will be getting my eggs soon.

I didnt get a roo but my brother in law has one that thinks he owns my girls, he is a smaller breed tho. Thats him in the hen house after I let the girls out the forage. I guess he is making sure its safe in there...lol
to the egg waiting thread USVIyardbird! Not sure how I missed welcoming you before, sorry bout that! WOW,, USVirgin Islands... that is wonderful to have you!

Love the picture of your girls foraging,, looks like you have six of them. I think I see a Buff Orpington, some speckled sussex perhaps, and wyandotte...and a RIR? Am I even close?
My girls are 5 months too, and just started laying, so you will soon enough. Please let us know how it's going, and make sure we get the news of that first egg!

Excellent news, that's fantastic. I just got two from my 4 girls today but it is only late morning here and at least one of them is on afternoons at the moment. Yesterday I found a shell less egg under the roost - so she didn't even think it was an egg coming and didn't get to the box. I think it's the Barnevelder because she only just started laying and is only laying 1-2 eggs per week so far. She is in the nesting box right now though so I have hopes my total for the day will go up.

Hi Spikes!

Funny, I had two shelless eggs last week as well. I think it was my RIR. First one was a first egg think, it was under the roost and had broken open. Nobody seemed to notice it, as the yolk was spread all over some big mess spots. The next day, it was sitting in the nest box, oh, wait, I have a picture of it..
I know it looks like a shell, but it was just a big paper membrane. When I reached in to pick it up, it freeked me out as I was expecting a regular feeling egg. When I tore it open, it was a regular looking egg and yolk. I ate it! THen I read you shouldn't eat it.,Didn't get sick or anything, so I got lucky. That same pullet has since given me 3 hard shell eggs so I guess her system has ironed it all out.

Cut my finger pretty bad today, and it's hurting to type... don't like that. We are in for a cold snap here in Upstate NY. Supposed to be single digit every night for a week. I have a hen with a bare spot behind her comb from Mr. Roo grabbing on to her when he clilmbs aboard. I have seen him do it several times. For some reason, only she has gotten the bare spot. It's one of my BA's, and she is so pretty with that horrible chapped bare spot. I have to try and catch her tomorrow and put some NuStock all over it, that really does alot to get the feathers started back up.

Ok, finger is really smarten now... good night all, I am so tired,, drove to Long Island for appointments with the kids. Long drives exhaust me lately! I'm gettin old!
