Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Dear Husband...lol...not to be confused with Dumb Husband. THank goodness I don't have one of those!
My DH (Now that I know LOL) is why we added 2 more to the bunch 8) he said do we have EEs? He was listening when I read him the threads! and I said no. So he said then we should get 2 more, we have the room. I about fell over! Love the DH!!!

This is Goblin

and Ghost up close. Americanas but different :)

These are the eggs my Welsummer (darker) and Austrolarp are laying. I'm not sure if you'd say light brown or as to my eyes a pinkish/lavender?

I wasn't going to mention this until we did, but have any of you noticed that we are almost up to 1000 pages! I have a special emoticon just waiting for that 1000th post! lol....When I started this thread, I wondered if it would die out once we all got eggs! I am so happy that all of us still want to talk about our girls and their habits I am thinking of taking a poulty course that is given within an hours drive of me. You can actually get certain level certifications . It's just finding the time!

Thank you everyone for making this a wonderful, cozy place to come. All newcomers are welcome!

Cheers!

I've been worried all this time that by the time I got new eggs, this thread would have died! haha! Am I the only one still waiting? Went out this morning, and was just glad to find my daily egg before it froze. Yesterday's egg was cracked and frozen to the bottom of the box. It was only 5 degrees outside. We had an ice storm yesterday, and with 3 solid inches of ice, I can barely make it to the coop! So I'm still waiting on eggs, and warmer weather.

MB, the compost system looks awesome! I agree...forget diamonds. What I would really love is a coop expansion with automatic solar powered doors, and an extra wing for ducks!

I barely noticed the ice storm yesterday, since I spent the whole day staring into my incubator. My hatch is almost done. Here is my daughter with a new friend! She is a really great chicken mama.

I added 2 Golden Comets to my flock today! They have been laying for about 2 weeks. My original 6 hens will begin laying in a few weeks, hopefully.

Here they are! One of these 2 is responsible for...

OUR FIRST EGG!!!

Now that is a hubby who desearves all the affection you can give him! My husband Rich is amazing, when I said I wanted chickens,, he said...ok! I think this whole chicken thing has crept up on him. He gets up very early to drive to work, but lets the chickens out first. He gets a kick out of Duke, who crows away when he imitates him. When I told him I might replace him with a nice Heritage Barred Rock rooster, he got this look on his face as if to say,,, "Not Duke!".

Lucky you could drive to just pick up two EE's. I have to start to investigate some reputable breeders within a car drive, that's neat! Where did you get yours?

To the egg waiting thread! Glad to have newcombers, and happy to have you! What kind are your other 6 hens? I have two "golden buffs" which is another fancy name for red sex links like your comets. I have to tell you, those 2 skinny brown plain wrapper birds lay my largest darkest brown eggs. They have also been averaging 5-6 eggs a week so far! Their eggs also have the largest yolks. I want to call Meyer Hatchery, and see what they cross with the RIR to make their red sex links. Probably varies. Maybe White leghorn. I love those silly plain janes. One is named Sadie, the other Matilda.

Nice pictuers of your coop as well, looks very nice! Please post often about your girls, we'd love to hear about them.

ps,, where in Delaware are you located? I just got back last week from University of Delaware where my oldest is a senior. He has mono, and I wanted to be wtih him for a few days. Made a bunch of his favorite dishes and drove it down to him. I told him, you almost got through all four years without getting this silly disease!
