Hi all,
My daughter and I have 4 chickens.
One of them laid her first egg over last weekend. Here is a picture. Found it on the floor of the coop.. not in the nesting boxes where i expressly told them to lay.
Not sure which of my girls laid it, but i think it might be my largest hen. Every time i pet her back she crouches down which i read means she is thinking about laying eggs But that said the personalities of the chickens has really changed over the last week so its hard to tell for sure.
A few days later we found a second one. Maybe a tiny bit larger.. also on the floor of the coop.
I put a golf ball in one of the nesting boxes, but I'm starting to worry that my coop set up maybe isn't meeting the flocks impeccably high standards. No one is roosting or going into the boxes (but that might be a conversation for a different thread).
I thought that there was a egg laying pattern of about an egg every other day.. but then haven't seen anything since the last egg.. maybe 3 days or so.
Just looking for any thoughts, advice, or commentary on what to expect and maybe what to do about the nesting boxes and roosting.
All four of the girls are about 17wks old.
Found that mine began in a very odd ways...Sometimes in the floor of the coop, sometimes in the dirt, some were paper thin and soft,,,it took them a little while to get everything together..LOL...,.since then, have had no problems.....
Well something really strange is going on in my hen house. A week ago Tuesday I got one good sized egg and have no idea where that one came from. The next day I had a little egg and then after that all I'm getting is little brown ones. The funny thing is the first egg I got was a double yolker. Anyway I sat outside this morning waiting to see who laid me these little eggs and it ended up being my Barred rock who I call Roxanne. Maybe she was the one that laid the big one and decided she was spoiling me. All my pullets are 5 months except one that is 4 months. I'm anxious to see whose going to be next.
One of my girls layed this today. I know it has to be one of my teenagers because I gathered all the ones from my older girls. Also found another one with just yolk in nesting box. I did throw more oyster shells out there after finding this. But big girls are just fine.
Now to try to figure which ones with out scaring them all, Iguess I will just have to wait til later and go out with a flashlight and check a few vents.

This is my second only, the other got broken due to it being layed outside the nest box
Still no sign of anymore 2 days later, anyone help? I am new to chickens this young usually we get them and they lay straight away or maybe one day later but then they keep going. No idea how old they are but they are all pretty young and only 3 are actually laying according to were we bought them.
