Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Today is the first day I got 4 eggs from 16 girls 2 very small and 2 medium so maybe there are 2 new layers, seems slow because its over a week since I got my first egg but the eggcitment is still there

Well, good luck with the new ones that are already laying. I have bought 4 in the last month from two different people and two of them haven't laid an egg yet. Out of the other two one laid one egg, a beautiful dark olive egg and hasn't laid another one since. The other laid four days in a row and hasn't laid an egg for over a week. At least those two I know laid eggs but the other two, I have no idea what's going on with them. I must be jinxed.

Ilive in Maine and have a pretty big coop so the extra chickens are mostly to make the coop warm for the winter. I have been looking and came across someone looking to get rid of a few. So this works for both of us. My little pullets are all healthy and seem to be doing well. We just started getting eggs this week, and it is just the two of us, so whatever we get should be good. I have a son in a group home who will be able to use some too. I am sure once we start getting them on a regular basis, we can figure out others who may want some.

;) I wished you lived closer Marcy. I may try to give up a few of my girls to a good home. When my chicks start laying I am going to end up with 18 girls... Not sure yet what I am going to do with all these eggs. Any time I take eggs to the office I get.... "Oh... I just bought eggs from the store..." There is always the off chance that I could still have a couple of more boys in the mix. So far I have only id'ed 2 of them. But since I think Southern California is a bit far from you... oh well ;) Something will come up. Think positive... there could be a great egg shortage and all of our eggs will be in great demand;)

My grandkids are moving out this way next summer so I will be giving them some. I will stick a sign out and maybe sell a few at farmers market if I end up with enough. My sister lives not far away either, and my hubby loves pickled eggs. LOL. We live in a rural area, lots of people have chickens. I also have lots of herbs, and almost an acre of wild Maine blueberries.

That sounds amazing. I envy your blue berries;)

. Were I am at is about an hour or so East of L.A. (Depends on traffic and how fast you drive... for me it would be an hour and a half;) I have an acre and a half in an area that has a few areas zoned as small farming communities. Most of my neighbors have some kind of live stock and chickens. But not the majority of my family and friends. I'm sure something will come up. Something always does.
I do have an herb garden of good size and lots of different kinds of fruit trees. My mom ( who is retired) and I bought this house together almost 5 yrs ago... So our trees are still young. We have been having lots of fun with all the creatures and things we have been trying to grow. All this and less then 15 mins away from work. :) I love my life and home ;)

One egg yesterday out of 2 chickens that I know are laying so far. They still lay them on top of the nest boxes even though there are golf balls in the nest boxes. I did notice that the straw in one nest box is being shaped into a nest.

My brahama has given me an egg a day since Sunday and on Tuesday our first EE started laying. She has laid an egg a day since since she started three days ago. Hers are much bigger than our brahama's. Now if my other 17 the same age would start I could stop buying eggs.
