Thanks Gretch, am going to call the hospital today, methinks they need to get their act together...no Dr's available.....geesh the NHS is going to the dogs!

It sounds like you need to request you are sent to another hospital asap. I thought these days there was more patient choice - you need to exercise your rights and insist on being seen. If that does not work then I would get to cansualty and insist that your symptoms are worsening and that they find someone who can treat you.
good luck.

You are so right on that one!!! will ring.......eye uncomfortable today!....darn

English, I hope you get to see a doctor soon! The flashing lights can be an indicator of retinal detachment.

The following is an excerpt from healthscout.com:
"In most cases, retinal detachment develops slowly. The first symptom is often the sudden appearance of a large number of spots floating loosely in the eye. The person may not seek help, because the number of spots tends to decrease during the days and weeks before detachment. The person may also notice a curious sensation of flashing lights as the eye is moved. Because the retina does not contain sensory nerves that relay sensations of pain, the condition is painless. "

I'm so sorry about losing sight in the eye when young. I know you've adapted well, but man, what a horrible thing to have happen to a young one.

EC, how awful. I'll echo others' sentiment here - Do what you need to do to "force" getting help, and don't wait. I won't pretend I know a lot about the eye and optical nerves.

You're in my prayers. It sounds like you've adapted very well. Quite the stout soul, I'll wager.

Take care.

Sorry to hear about all this. You are a very patient and kind person.
If it were me, and they were saying no ER since it's an old injury.... well, I'd probably stumble and 'fall' into a door frame or something on that side of my face. And then haul @ss to the ER!!!!
The waiting and not knowing would be hard enough. But the flickering lights would send me over the edge!!!

Best of luck on all this!!!

Dearest Buffs what a friend you and all the BYC's are! haved lived wit the multiple detachment thingy for many years.......BUT am still hanging on in there as I DON'T want to lose my eye......flashing lights or not.....xxxx I love you guys

I think you need to get to the ER and make a big fuss- the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and all that.

Though the initial injury is an old long-standing condition, this new pain, discomfort, flashing light, white eye business is by no means old, or chronic, or static or stable.

Thismay well be an emergency, which simply means something that is new, or "emergent." This is not the time to be a good girl and wait for bureaucracy's wheels -whether U.S. or U.K. style bureaucracy doesn't matter one whit- to grind along.

English chick, we all love your smiling face, and we'd love it just as much with one eye less, I'm sure, but is that really necessary? If you are in pain and have noted serious recent changes, then get over there, in person, demand to be seen, and make noise, girlfriend. Now!

I wish I understood the whole medical thing in England better. I don't so.... I say go to an ER, but that probably isn't an option??

I hope that they can save your eye, EC. You seem to be taking it in stride, which is good. Kind of a bum deal that you lost vision in it so young, but what can you do besides take it in stride.

I just youtube'd some videos of folks who are missing an eye, about the only way you can tell is that it doesn't track as well with the other eye. They look pretty good though.

Anyway, I hope for the best for you.
