Enjoying Life!
So - I'm class of '65. Lived a pretty much hippy lifestyle right out of high school. Oh, I got a job as a telephone operator but I also lived in a commune of little cabins after mom (pretty gently) threw me out of the house ("It's time you learned to live on your own."). We smoked grass, ran around barefoot and loved our life. I did the whole hippy thing...attended Woodstock, had so many peel-and-stick flowers and peace signs on my car that my dad (21 year Navy retired) made me park it on the next block when I came over to visit them
Here's the point of all this background - today I was on YouTube, reminiscing about all the great old 60s songs and I clicked on this one:
I remembered holding hands in a group with others while we sang this song fervently, eyes closed, absolutely certain...at least I was...that this COULD happen - that we could bring about a better world. Love, respect for others, peace - the whole nine yards.
And now there's today. Division, environmental degradation, hatred, shootings, beatings, disillusionment with the police, politicians lying to our faces, a mismanaged pandemic, rampant fires, the environment heating up, ice-caps melting... I felt like crying.
I guess...I just want to hear from others who are my age. Especially those who thought of themselves as hippies (I still do). What do we/can we do now? What do we think, as a group who must have once believed - at least in part - in that dream of a better world? Maybe I just want to share thoughts and give each other a virtual hug. Anyone else want to share thoughts about this?
